What's the story?

At Christmas time on SmackDown Live, one of the more shocking moments of recent memory occurred when AJ Styles decked Mr. McMahon after the Chairman goaded him to do so.

There hasn't been much follow up to it, and according to an appearance on Busted Open Radio by Bully Ray, he says WWE wants the fans to forget about the incident happening. Ringsidenews.com carried a transcript of Bully Ray's interview.

In case you didn't know...

Styles was walking around smiling backstage until he entered Mr. McMahon's office on the Christmas episode of SmackDown. Mr. McMahon asked why he was smiling since Daniel Bryan was running around with his WWE Championship.

This led to McMahon slapping and verbally chastising Styles to the point of basically forcing Styles into punching his boss. Styles said he wouldn't be apologizing for it and that he would do it again on the following week's show.

The heart of the matter

Mr. McMahon hosted a 'Face to Face' segment between Styles and Bryan on SmackDown this week. While the two opponents failed to do so inside the ring, Styles forced Bryan into the ring.

Since there hasn't been any other follow up after Styles punched his boss on national television, former WWE superstar Bully Ray said on Busted Open Radio that when WWE usually doesn't bring something up, they usually want the fans to forget about it.

“When WWE doesn’t follow up on something it normally tells me that they want us to forget about it. So I haven’t seen Vince even gently remind AJ of, ‘Don’t forget son, I know there’s an animal raging inside of there.’ We’re not getting anything from him.”

Bully also mentioned how McMahon and Styles interacted inside the ring this week as if nothing ever happened.

“He stood in the ring with AJ Styles [this week on SmackDown Live] and they did the promo and the back-and-forth, and did that promo really get us anywhere and anything?”

Styles actually held back from hitting the Chairman with a Phenomenal Forearm after Bryan pulled McMahon in front of him in order to shield himself from being hit by Styles.

What's next?

Since there wasn't any follow up to it on the last few episodes of the show, it's probably likely that it was done to get people talking about the incident during the holidays. The holiday episodes of Raw and SmackDown often don't do a lot in terms of moving storylines forward outside of a few feuds.

They usually have some Christmas related segments and a fight or two with themes of the holiday at the time. Styles hitting McMahon netted him the nickname 'the Real AJ Styles' so either they should slightly follow up with the segment in order to finish it off or do away with the awful nickname.
