WWE SmackDown: 5 biggest questions from the Superstar Shake-up episode (April 16, 2019)

Things went a little out of hand on Tuesday
Things went a little out of hand on Tuesday

The second day of the Superstar Shake-up started on a high as The Extraordinary Man showed up on the blue brand to do some Extraordinary Things and defeated Ali in a non-title match to announce his arrival.

While things surely slowed down from there on, we saw some major Raw superstars move to the blue brand, which clearly shows how much WWE will be focusing on SmackDown in the coming months before the FOX deal takes place.

With Becky holding both the women’s championships, The IIconics holding the Women’s Tag Team titles, the United States and Intercontinental Championships, and the SmackDown Tag Team Championships on the brand along with the WWE Championship, SmackDown is now loaded with gold.

However, WWE left us with a few obvious questions at the end of the night which left us a bit confused.

Check out the 5 biggest questions from the second and final day of the Superstar Shake-up, and share your favorite moment from the show in the comments section!

#5 Why have some NXT call-ups been left unassigned?

One of the main things we were hoping was to see all of the NXT call-ups find a home during the Superstar Shake-up.

Superstars like Aleister Black, Ricochet, and EC3 managed to cement their place on Raw, while a few new faces were also called up to the main roster.

However, Nikki Cross’ name was nowhere to be seen on either brand, and this means she is still left unassigned. The superstar was one of the best things about the NXT women’s roster but now has become nothing but a Live Event worker for the main roster.

Was Nikki Cross overlooked deliberately and will she play an important role in the weeks to come? Or has WWE given up on the superstar already and will be sending her back to NXT in the coming days? Hopefully, we will find the answers very soon.

#4 Why is SmackDown’s women’s roster so loaded?

In a surprising turn of events, WWE has taken the cream of Raw’s female roster and moved it to SmackDown Live. The move has left many in the WWE Universe asking questions.

With Carmella, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, The IIconics, and Mandy Rose, SmackDown’s women’s roster was already packed and looking pretty good. WWE moved Bayley, Mickie James, Liv Morgan, and Ember Moon from Raw to SmackDown, while NXT’s Kairi Sane has also found her way to the blue brand.

This has left a huge dent on Raw’s female roster, which now has Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey out with injuries, and The Riott Squad broken up with Liv Morgan’s move.

Raw now only seems to have Alexa Bliss and Lacey Evans at the top, with Natalya playing a lead role in holding the roster together with Sasha Banks’ future currently unknown.

#3 Why are The IIconics being handed The Revival treatment?

When Raw’s Revival won the Raw Tag Team Championships, all they managed to do was lose in non-title matches and take the pin in multiple team tag matches, while scoring unfair victories in title matches.

After winning the Women’s Tag Team Championships, it seems like The IIconics are going down the same path.

Just one night ago, the duo featured on Raw where they were defeated by the unlikely tag team of Bayley and Naomi in a non-title match. A night later, they were part of an eight-woman tag team match in which Peyton Royce took the pin from NXT’s export, Kairi Sane.

While WWE will use that in the coming weeks to set up championship matches between The IIconics and Asuka & Sane, it still doesn’t work well to show the heel champions not being able to score a victory after winning the championships.

#2 Is Kevin Owens turning heel again?

Whenever Kevin Owens gets too happy and joyous, we know what’s about to come. The superstar works best as a heel, and it seems like he might be turning heel once again.

Kevin Owens returned from injury as a babyface and was fast-tracked to the WWE Championship picture by Vince McMahon. His return as a babyface must have been due to Daniel Bryan’s heel character, and now he will want to change things.

Now that the dust has settled, and the WWE Championship is in the hands of the face Kofi Kingston, it could mean Kevin Owens will turn on him sooner than later to get another shot at the title.

Owens was quickly thrown out of the title picture by Kofi’s rise and the KofiMania fever, and will surely be bitter about that.

Will Kevin Owens’ partnership with The New Day end up in a heel-turn for the Canadian-born superstar?

#1 Why did Roman Reigns attack Vince?

The biggest question on everyone’s mind right now is why did Roman Reigns attack Vince McMahon to end the night? While we will find out the answer in the weeks to come, or may not at all, similar to what happened in AJ Styles’ case, we can’t help but assume things.

Will Roman Reigns be the top heel on SmackDown with Daniel Bryan injured? Was the move only taken to ensure that the crowd doesn’t boo him in the coming days? Will he get into another rivalry with The McMahon Family to increase SmackDown’s ratings before the FOX deal? Or was it all just done to end the overall average Superstar Shake-up on a high?

We will be able to get answers to some of these questions in the days to come, but a heel Roman Reigns will surely be a threat to the babyface champion, Kofi Kingston.

If the move keeps Roman a babyface, it will allow him to go after the United States Championship which is held by Samoa Joe, and give Kofi some breathing space at the top.
