WWE SmackDown Live: 5 gimmick changes/character turns we could witness tonight (23 April 2019)

How long before Owens turns on the New Day?

This week on RAW, we witnessed quite a few gimmicks changes along with some character turns. Even after the culmination of the Superstar Shake-up, WWE is still looking to finalize their rosters by pulling out some last minute changes, even undoing some steps from last week.

On this week's RAW, we saw Bray Wyatt finally make his return to WWE TV, but it was quite unlike what everyone was expecting. A potential bad-guy turned good-guy but maniac dollhouse keeper is how I can explain his gimmick has been portrayed so far. But it was something new, something fresh, something exciting.

Apart from that, we all saw the Glorious One, Bobby Roode, get a new name, new look, and what looks like a potential heel turn, as he will now be known as Robert Roode. I kinda liked his new mustache look, it does make him feel like a villain.

We also saw the team of Cesaro and Sheamus break-up. With this, it's clear that WWE is looking to make a lot of changes on its rosters to actually freshen things up, which is something fans would welcome. So can we expect something along the same lines tonight on SmackDown as well?

In this article, let's take a look at 5 gimmick changes/character turns that we could witness tonight on SmackDown. Feel free to share your thoughts on the same.

#5 Killian Dain

What's next for him?
What's next for him?

Sanity was a faction that had immense potential to be the next big thing on the main roster. Unfortunately, Vince maybe didn't find them good enough to invest time in them, and Sanity ended up being one of the major NXT failures on the main roster.

With Eric Young drafted to RAW last week, and Alexander Wolfe appearing on NXT UK in a faction alongside Walter, it leaves the big guy of the group, Killian Dain, with nothing to do. Killian is surely a talented prospect, and with Sanity dismantled now, it might be a time for him to start a singles career.

I doubt WWE will go forward with the Sanity gimmick with Dain, and we might see him debuting a new gimmick on SmackDown tonight.

#4 Sheamus

The Bar supposedly is no more together!
The Bar supposedly is no more together!

Talking about WWE making a lot of post-Superstar Shake-up changes on this week's RAW, one notable thing was that Cesaro has been drafted to RAW without his tag-team partner, Sheamus, who is still on SmackDown.

While WWE is yet to announce it, but it looks like The Bar is no more. With Cesaro getting a win in his match against Cedric Alexander on RAW, he and his former partner Sheamus could be in for a singles push.

To make the situation interesting, WWE could play with the character of the Celtic Warrior, either turning him face or making him a ruthless heel. A new makeover for him would also be amazing.

#3 Liv Morgan

Could she become a big singles star on SmackDown?

The rumor is that WWE has big plans for Liv Morgan post the break-up of Riott Squad and her being drafted to SmackDown.

A fresh character change is something she'll need as fans might not take her Riott Squad character very seriously. A face turn from Liv could also be on the cards, along with a single's push.

#2 Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews is one of the most underrated talents!
Apollo Crews is one of the most underrated talents!

Apollo Crews, in my opinion, is a very underrated talent. The guy can do some serious action inside the ring and amaze fans with his athleticism. But his current good guy gimmick isn't helping him much, as I don't see him even winning a mid-card title with his current gimmick.

A heel turn, combined with getting a new manager would be amazing for Crews, as it would add that feel of danger in his character, something that would make fans start taking him seriously.

#1 Kevin Owens

How long before he says
How long before he says "that's enough!"

Kevin Owens surprisingly returned as a face after months of being out-of-action. Fans were quite amazed to see him as a face, but soon we've all started missing the ruthless heel that Kevin was.

I'm not saying that his face turn is a fail, but there's just something in Kevin that makes him a natural heel. His recent stints with The New Day felt like a build-up to a heel turn, and while it did not happen last week, I have a feeling it can happen tonight.

Remember how Owens turned on Sami in NXT? He could pull that off again, this time on Kofi Kingston. We still don't know who Kofi's first challenger would be, but he has had quite a few interactions with Kevin in the last few months.

Which wrestler on SmackDown do you think needs a gimmick change/character turn more than anyone else? Do let me know in the comments section.
