WWE SmackDown Live Preview: 16 August, 2016

Eva is back

The biggest WWE pay-per-view of the summer is just days away and WWE has one more show in the form of SmackDown to complete their buildup. Last week around, WWE came up with a solid outing for SmackDown and the fans will be expecting nothing less this time. The championship feud involving Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose will indeed be a major focus of the show, whereas there will be importance for the women’s division as well.

The tag teams seem to be in a chaotic situation as well ahead of SummerSlam. Here is a look at the possible segments that WWE could roll out this week on SmackDown.

  1. The Eva Marie scenario

    Piling up the heat

Eva Marie’s wardrobe malfunction video turned out to be the most watched WWE video on YouTube last week. This underlined once again that sex sells. But for Eva Marie, the current situation is a blessing. She had some heat on her for the lack of wrestling skills and now, with this gimmick, the heat on Eva has doubled. She has been escaping her eventual match for quite some time now and the coward heel character works perfectly for her.

With such a buildup, WWE can easily make Eva Marie’s debut a big deal when it happens. Also, it would be interesting to see what WWE comes up with after the wardrobe malfunction last week. Will it be another wardrobe malfunction or will WWE come up with something more creative?

  1. Tag team turmoil

    On top right now

Unlike the tag team division on Raw, the tag team division on SmackDown does not have a championship to fight for. But that is not stopping the teams from going at it. Last week, we saw an all-out brawl between the tag teams on SmackDown and it might indicate a four-way battle between them. WWE is bound to have a new set of Tag team championships for SmackDown and they might just find the inaugural champions at SummerSlam.

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan are riding on some good momentum and they will be the favorite to be champions if WWE does indeed book a four-way battle. Also, Usos seem set to return to the mix, making matters more interesting.

  1. Heath Slater again?

Slater going to steal the show again

Heath Slater has had more segments than any other superstar after the WWE draft. Being the free agent that he is, Slater has the freedom to show up wherever he wants and do whatever he likes. This freedom has let him showcase his brilliance as a performer and Slater’s segment with Brock Lesnar on Raw acts as proof of this.

The future of Slater, however, is still not sorted out at the moment which means that he could show up on SmackDown this week to deliver yet another entertaining segment. Last week, we saw Slater crossing paths with Rhyno and this week around, maybe it will be step up for him.

  1. Adding some matches to the card

    Spot for SummerSlam?

If we take a look at the SummerSlam card, the matches representing Monday Night Raw outnumber the matches from SmackDown. It is understandable considering that Raw has a bigger roster and that Raw is a three-hour show but then again, SmackDown still can add a couple of matches to the SummerSlam card.

As mentioned earlier, the tag team division could contribute to the cause as SmackDown could add a four-way tag team match for SummerSlam.

Elsewhere, the women’s division could also use a match. Carmella and Natalya are having a solid feud whereas Eva Marie deserves some pay-per-view time for her performances as well.

  1. The championship feud

    Will WWE change the match?

Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose will be the center of attention this week on SmackDown as the title match between them at SummerSlam needs a big boost. Ziggler and Ambrose have been making good progress over the past few weeks with the presence of Bray Wyatt haunting them. Bray is yet to be booked for a SummerSlam match and this opens the door for WWE making the WWE championship match at triple threat.

Also, Bray is struggling with an injury at the moment which might reduce the chances of this happening. Either way, the WWE championship feud is going to have a grand homecoming segment ahead of SummerSlam and it would be worth watching.
