We are all set for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown that looks quite promising on paper. The company has had a busy week with all the recent releases that included the likes of Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, Santana Garrett, Lana, and Murphy.

In addition to that, the decline in RAW’s viewership and the approaching Hell In A Cell pay-per-view has now put a lot of pressure on the Blue brand to deliver a good show.

In this article, we will take a look at few things that can unfold on WWE SmackDown this week.

#1 Roman Reigns fuels big betrayal during the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship match

The Usos will return to the tag team title picture tonight
The Usos will return to the tag team title picture tonight

The Usos returned to in-ring action on WWE SmackDown last week. This was their first match in over a year, and they looked better than ever. Jimmy and Jey Uso faced The Street Profits in an incredible match and picked up a convincing victory. This also led to a confident Jimmy Uso demanding a shot at the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

Adam Pearce granted his request, and The Usos are now set to challenge Rey and Dominik Mysterio for their tag team titles tonight. While the match looks promising, it is highly unlikely that we will see the championships change hands on WWE SmackDown this week. The last few episodes have heavily indicated a potential betrayal.

Roman Reigns congratulated The Usos on winning their match, but he was not happy with Jimmy’s decision to ask for a title shot. During a backstage segment on WWE SmackDown, Reigns was seen whispering something into Jey Uso’s ears that left the latter visibly conflicted. The Tribal Chief also reminded Jey how they got his current status as a main eventer.

The conflict between Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso has been evident since the latter's return on WWE SmackDown. We could see Jey Uso betray his brother after the tag team title match on tonight’s show. Reigns is desperate to keep Jimmy in line, and he only trusts his right-hand man to carry out the job.

The aforementioned turn of events could be delayed, but they are inevitable. The creative team is bound to book big matches involving these superstars at the upcoming pay-per-view, Hell In A Cell.

Despite being predictable, this feud still manages to create excitement as it would pit The Usos against each other and possibly lead to an incredible singles match. Together, they have dominated the tag team division for years, but now it will be interesting to see how they face each other inside the squared circle.

#2 Rey Mysterio’s ‘mystery attackers’ make their presence known on WWE SmackDown

Last week on WWE SmackDown, Rey and Dominik Mysterio were scheduled to defend their tag team titles against The Dirty Dawgs in a WrestleMania Backlash rematch. Unfortunately, Rey Mysterio was brutally attacked backstage right before the match, and he was ruled out of his title defense. A frustrated Dominik Mysterio then single-handedly fought against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

Dominik delivered a rather impressive performance inside the ring. He struggled after being outnumbered, and his resilience to keep fighting was brilliantly put on display. In the end, a slight distraction from an injured Rey allowed Dominik to pin a distracted Ziggler to retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

The episode didn’t reveal any details about Rey’s attackers and labeled them as mystery personnel. We could find more information about WWE SmackDown this week.

It is possible that The Alpha Academy attacked Rey Mysterio. Before winning the tag team titles, Rey and Dominik Mysterio engaged in a solid rivalry with Otis and Chad Gable. We could now see them engage in a promising title feud. But first, they have to face The Usos.

#3 Kevin Owens set to challenge Apollo Crews for the Intercontinental Championship on WWE SmackDown

This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown will feature another title match. Kevin Owens is set to challenge Apollo Crews for the Intercontinental Championship. He almost defeated Crews last week in a non-title match, but interference from Commander Azeez stopped him from pinning the reigning champion.

Later in the night, Owens demanded a title match against Crews, and WWE official Adam Pearce made the match official for this week's show. Interestingly, Azeez won’t be on Crews’ corner this time as he has been barred from ringside. This has undoubtedly increased the chances of the Intercontinental Championship changing hands on WWE SmackDown tonight.

KO last held the IC title back in 2016, and he would love to win the championship again after five years. This could also lead to an eventual title feud between him and Sami Zayn. Crews has a difficult challenge ahead of him, and it will be exciting to see how he finds his way out.

#4 Bayley attacks Bianca Belair for another shot at the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair faced Carmella last week and picked up an impressive win. Former champion Bayley also made her presence known during this match when she joined the commentary team. Following the match, Bayley and Belair stared down at each other, hinting they were not yet done.

Belair successfully defended her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley at WrestleMania Backlash. However, we could see both these superstars engage in another title match at Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Their last match was good, and they could repeat the magic later this month. Since they have a long history, the creative won’t have to do much in the build-up.

However, they must focus on making this feud more engaging by booking intense segments on WWE SmackDown. Bayley and Belair are talented superstars and deserve to be a part of a promising storylines. Moreover, the recent releases have not left many credible challengers for Belair on WWE SmackDown’s roster.

#5 What’s next for Big E on WWE SmackDown after Aleister Black’s release?

Who could be Big E's next opponent on WWE SmackDown?
Who could be Big E's next opponent on WWE SmackDown?

Aleister Black recently returned on WWE SmackDown and made a strong statement by attacking Big E. Unfortunately, he was released by the company before we could see anything transpire between him and the New Day member. The news came as a shock to the WWE Universe, who was happy to see the creative team finally investing in Black.

Aleister Black will thrive anywhere that recognizes his talents and books him accordingly. His shocking release now means that Big E is free to pursue other targets on WWE SmackDown. While Apollo Crews could be one of his targets, the creative team should look for other storylines as this feud has well and truly run its course.

In a bold move, WWE SmackDown can slowly start pushing Big E into the Universal Championship picture. He would make for a great opponent against Roman Reigns. Big E deserves to compete for world titles, and he only needs one opportunity to establish himself as a permanent threat in the big league.
