Did storyline cover actual injury to Roman Reigns?

Roman was ‘busted open’ after being forced to be a woodpecker to the announce table

The conclusion to this week’s RAW tried bravely to close out the show with the same bang that is began with. It seemed destined for another nosedive, until the bloody beating Roman Reigns took at the meant-to-be menacing, wrapped hands of Triple H. So the WWE got what they hoped for, albeit in a different form.

Videos of commentator Byron Saxton allegedly passing Reigns a blood pill in the midst of the melee have gone viral, but that hasn‘t stopped the WWE from propagating that the Big Dog’s snout was shattered and that he went under the knife for it.

Pictures showing Reigns’ nose after it was supposedly surgically repaired are doing the rounds as well, but cagesideseats.com went crusader and had the claims disproved by actually showing the pictures to doctors.

While those doctors stated that it didn’t appear at all like Reigns underwent surgery for a shattered nose, it seems like he legitimately underwent a procedure, but for a different purpose. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter weighed in on the matter, saying,”He was not injured in the angle. Whether the surgery was legit and there was a pre-existing condition that led to the angle, we've heard conflicting stories about.

“At the Smackdown tapings in Indianapolis, the word going around among talent was that there was a pre-existing condition with his nose that needed to be taken care of and the surgery was legitimate. There were plenty of rumors before the show that Reigns was injured, although friends of Reigns denied them at the time, but it does seem like that was the case.”
