Ali was the shock replacement for Finn Balor back at SmackVille when it was revealed that the former Universal Champion was struggling with stomach flu and couldn't fulfill his scheduled duties against Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

Ali was unable to pick up the victory in Nashville but did go on to pin the Champion the following week, which was thought to be the catalyst to a match between the duo at SummerSlam this weekend, since Balor already has a match against Bray Wyatt.
Instead, Ali came out to save Rey Mysterio from a beatdown by Dolph Ziggler and was quickly defeated, Nakamura didn't make an appearance and there was nothing that suggested that the storyline between the two men was going to continue. It's no assumed that Nakamura will not be defending his title on Sunday night.
