This week's episode of WWE SmackDown Live saw the WWE Universe favorite, Kofi Kingston and The New Day come out to sign the WWE Championship contract.

Following the gauntlet match on WWE SmackDown two weeks ago to determine the #6 entrant to the WWE Elimination Chamber, Kofi Kingston put a mark on the WWE Universe with his ability to astound them. He replaced Mustafa Ali who could not participate in the match due to injuries.

Kofi Kingston seized on to the opportunity like no one else and made a record for lasting the longest time in a match in WWE.

At Elimination Chamber, he was the last Superstar to be eliminated by Daniel Bryan who managed to retain his Championship, but not before Kofi Kingston had won the hearts and minds of the WWE Universe by putting on yet another amazing performance.

As if that was not enough, he was able to qualify and become the #1 contender yet again on the following episode of WWE SmackDown Live, making a place for himself in a match against Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WWE Fastlane.

So, when the time came to sign the contract for the WWE Championship match on this week's episode of SmackDown Live, the WWE audience was looking forward to it. However, it would not play out the way the WWE Universe wanted it to.

Ever the villain, Vince McMahon came out to the entrance ramp, where he told Kofi that while Kingston had managed to put on a good show for the WWE Universe, he wanted to give the audience the match that they deserved. With that, he replaced Kofi Kingston in the WWE Fastlane WWE Championship match with a returning Superstar instead -- Kevin Owens.

This was extremely disappointing for the WWE Universe and the New Day, and they reacted as such on social media.
