WWE WrestleMania 2017 Results: Biggest winners and losers

It's safe to say that this ‘Mania went down better than expected!

The biggest wrestling event of the year, Wrestlemania 33, is finally done and dusted. There were some pretty amazing moments on The Grandest Stage of Them All and there were some pretty terrible ones too. Just like any other WWE show, I guess.

Despite a less than stellar final quarter, The Ultimate Thrill Ride delivered quite a few ups and there were a number of Superstars who will be walking away from Camping World Stadium in a much better place than when they first arrived for WrestleMania weekend.

On the other hand, there are some Superstars who are much worse off at the end of the night. The WWE will have one hell of a tough time trying to build these men and women back up.

So, without further ado, let’s get into the biggest winners and losers from WrestleMania 33:

Loser #4: Dean Ambrose and Baron Corbin

They deserved better than a preshow match

Don’t get me wrong, Dean Ambrose and Baron Corbin had a really really good match for the WWE Intercontinental Title where Ambrose came out on top to retain the belt. They are listed as losers here solely because of the WWE’s decision to demote the match to the undercard.

The IC title has lost a lot of its original prestige and this was a great opportunity for the company to help the belt regain some of its lost shine. Baron Corbin is one of the more promising talents on the roster, while Ambrose has emerged as a legitimate star over the past year.

Unfortunately for both men, their great match will be short lived in the memory because of their place on the card.

Winner #4: Brock Lesnar

Brock finally picked up the win against Goldberg

Sure, everybody expected it to happen, but Brock Lesnar still came out of WrestleMania looking like an absolute monster. Things might have looked like they were going to go bad but kicking out of the Jackhammer (1st in history), leapfrogging over a spear and then proceeding to take Goldberg to Suplex City over and over again before finishing it, ensured that Brock regained his mojo.

The crowd absolutely added to this match and made it a much better experience than it should have been and The Beast Incarnate is very much the top dog on Raw once again.

Loser #3: Roman Reigns

Roman is still despised by the WWE Universe. Surprise

Defeating The Undertaker at Wrestlemania was supposed to be one of the most sacred things before Brock Lesnar took him apart and ended The Streak. It didn’t mean as much as it should have. Now that Roman Reigns has been added to that list, beating The Phenom on The Grandest Stage of Them All means even less.

‘Taker got an amazing send off from a raucous Orlando crowd but this encounter did very little to give his opponent any sort of momentum with the WWE Universe. Come tomorrow night on Raw, Reigns will be booed heavily yet again.

If the WWE had played its cards right, they could have put Roman in a really strong position – preferably as a heel. It has become all too predictable now and defeating the legendary Deadman has done very little to help Reigns’ career.

Winner #3: Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens

Owens is the new US Champion

Coming into WrestleMania 33, there was some apprehension amongst wrestling fans as to whether Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens would actually pick up the wins their careers need in order to progress.

Owens hasn’t looked like the same ruthless killer he was before his partnership with Chris Jericho, while Rollins’ face turn has been a bit of a start-stop affair. They both needed these wins desperately and they got them – clean.

Owens looked like the ruthless heel he was as NXT Champion, while Rollins overcame the odds against Triple H. The veterans did the right thing by putting over their younger counterparts.

Loser #2: Braun Strowman

How did he not win this?

How did Braun Strowman not win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal? Having been left without a major feud, The Monster Among Men still had a chance to make a major impact by winning the trophy and instead, it went to Mojo Rawley.

A bizarre booking decision, to say the least, and it is one that makes Strowman look extremely weak. And, for what? Someone who isn’t really going to get the kind of push that the winner of this match deserves in the form of Rawley.

Unless the WWE comes back and puts Strowman into the Universal Title picture on Raw, the Universe won’t look at him the same again.

Winner #2: The Hardy Boyz

Welcome home, Jeff

While everyone hoped for the best and feared the worst when The New Day came out just before the Raw Tag Team Title match got under the way, no one actually believed they would be back. But, back they are and how. The Hardy Boyz are the new Raw Tag Team Champions.

Sure, it wasn’t in their Broken persona as that gimmick is still embroiled in a legal battle between Matt Hardy and TNA but it was still electrifying to see the brothers back where they belong and picking up the tag titles to go with it.

This should hopefully breathe some new life into the tag team division and make it matter.

Loser #1: Bray Wyatt

Possibly the worst match of the night

Nobody can ever take Bray Wyatt seriously ever again. They have buried him one too many times and WrestleMania 33 was the last straw. While the weirdness of the match was something new, the way he lost was absolutely atrocious.

A random RKO and done. The match didn’t feel like a WWE Title match. It was terribly worked and Bray has lost all credibility after this. He will probably be sent spiralling down to mid card obscurity now and the WWE has wasted one of its biggest stars.

Winner #1: AJ Styles

Stealing the show

If you want to know how to make the best out of a bad situation, look at AJ Styles and what he did at WrestleMania 33. Having been booked in a nonsense feud with Shane McMahon, Styles and the McMahon scion absolutely tore the house down in the first match of the night.

They stole the show and Styles has come out of this looking like an even bigger star and that’s saying something. Hats off to you, AJ and we hope to see you back in the main event picture now.
