WWE WrestleMania 33 News: SmackDown LIVE Women's Championship match moved to the Pre-show at WrestleMania

Smackdown Live Women’s Championship Match for WrestleMania 33

Part of the problem with WrestleMania having so many matches is that quite a few of them will end up being relegated to the pre-show. Based on a story from Wrestling Inc, we have learned that the SmackDown LIVE Women’s Championship match has suffered that fate.

It was announced today that the blue brand’s Women’s Championship would be defended during the first hour of the pre-show at the Showcase of the Immortals, joining the Cruiserweight Championship match between Neville and Austin Aries.

As previously noted here, it has also been announced that the fourth edition of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will be on the pre-show. The current set-up of WrestleMania 33 allows for three matches on the pre-show, and ten other matches on the main card.

In previous years, being relegated to the pre-show was seen as a symbolic slap in the face to the talent. It would appear that this year, WWE is setting up the pre-show actually to deliver some entertainment from an in-ring standpoint. WWE wants as many eyes on the full six-hours-plus of WrestleMania this year, and it seems like this is their answer to that issue.
