21 – 1: The Undertaker’s streak comes to an end
FEATURED WRITER

When the greatest sporting event in Wrestling history kicked off for the 30th time at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, nobody in their wildest dreams had imagined that the greatest streak in the history of this great spectacle is nearing its end.

3 F5′s, a couple of Kimura Lock’s and countless 2 counts later, The Phenom finally tasted defeated for the very first time in WrestleMania history, as Brock Lesnar claimed victory at the WrestleMania XXX, to end the larger than life 21-year long winning streak of The Undertaker.

The match started with The Undertaker dominating proceedings while Lesnar tried to work on the right leg of The Phenom. Lesnar then started to dominate with the help of his MMA skills as the Deadman fights back with some old school wrestling.

The Undertaker then strikes with the Chokeslam on the younger but much stronger Lesnar, to draw first blood, before the 36-year-old kicked out at 2 counts. Following this, the Hell’s Gate was opened by the Undertaker for the first time during the match, which the Beast broke out of by pounding the Deadman on the mat.

The Undertaker followed it up with a second Hell’s Gate, but the end result remained the same as Lesnar broke out of it. Lesnar then tried to break Taker’s arm as he applied the Kimura lock, which is somehow countered by Taker as he gave Lesnar the taste of his own medicine by trapping him in the Kimura Lock. Lesnar barely survived the lock as he reached for the ropes.

The Undertaker tried to execute the old school rope walk on Lesnar, which is well countered by Lesnar with an F5, the second of the match, but The Deadman was not ready to give up, at-least, not yet.

An exhausted Taker then hit Lesnar with a Tombstone Piledriver, which to the bewilderment of The Phenom, Lesnar kicks out of.

A third and final F5 is hit on Undertaker by Lesnar, as he pins the dead man for probably the last time on the grandest of stages as the larger than life streak of 21 victories, comes to an end.

The entire world, along with the 75,000+ in attendance watched in disbelief as Lesnar managed what no other wrestler had managed in 21 previous attempts at the WrestleMania.

Shawn Michaels had come closest twice only to fail eventually and saw his wrestling career end in the process. Triple H tried thrice only to fail on all of those occasions. Back in WrestleMania XIX, the Streak was first under threat as a defiant Orton made us realize the importance of the streak. But at WrestleMania XXX, we realise how important the streak was now that it is finally over, 21 years later.

Brock Lesnar may have won the match and broken the streak to etch his name in history books, but it is the dead man who walks the winner one last time, as the whole world thanks the Undertaker for his unreal contribution to the wrestling industry.

He may have walked out of the ring for the very last time, but The Deadman keeps on walking.

In the words of Sir Tom Stoppard: “Every exit is an entry somewhere else.”

For The Undertaker, he exits from the mortal world and begins his journey towards immortality.
