Following their qualification to the Champions League semifinals, Borussia Dortmund stalwart Matts Hummels has aimed a cheeky dig at detractors of the German Bundesliga in a recent post on X.
The recent round of fixtures has seen two teams from Germany secure their place in the final four of the competition.
Germany is not only represented in the Champions League, with unconquered Bayer Leverkusen also through to the semifinals of the Europa League. These results come after the Bundesliga has been maligned as a farmer's league by fans often of Premier League clubs.
Taking aim at those fans, Hummels wrote on X:
"Good harvesting this week my fellow farmers."
The Bundesliga has been dominated by Bavarian giants Bayern Munich for most of this new millennium, with Die Bayern winning the league 11 times in a row from 2013 to 2023. While this led to jest being aimed at the league, the German clubs have shown their ability to dominate in Europe this season.
Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen possess all the hallmarks of another continental juggernaut as they are still unbeaten in all competitions this season.
Hummels will now hope the German sides can step up their game and lift both major European titles to cement their dominance in Europe.
