Stamp secured a statement submission win

Stamp Fairtex has continued to grow as a mixed martial artist with every passing fight and training camp that she goes through.

The former ONE atomweight kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion was always going to have to climb a steep hill when transitioning to MMA. Not many opponents would choose to stand with her and test their striking against the former world champion and that made grappling a priority.

However, in one of the biggest fights of her career to date, the Thai superstar showed that she cannot be taken for granted on the ground.

Facing wrestling specialist Ritu Phogat in the finals of the atomweight World Grand Prix, Stamp found herself on her back in the second round.

After threatening with a triangle, she was able to lock in an armbar to secure her one and only win via submission to win the tournament.

This fight will be crucial for Stamp getting the win at ONE 167

We may not have seen Stamp secure another submission since, but what that win did was show that even against a high-level grappler, she is capable of finding the submission.

This serves as a deterrent to all of her opponents, making it clear that it is not as simple as just taking her down to avoid the striking.

At ONE 167, the atomweight world champion returns to defend her title against Denice Zamboanga in the main event.

Some may argue that Zamboanga is the more well-rounded fighter of the two but this is not how the champion's team sees the fight. She will be ready to light up the Impact Arena with her striking and if needed, show the evolution in her overall game as a mixed martial artist once again.

ONE 167 will air live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok on June 7.
