WWE superstars maintain a very private lifestyle mainly due to their on-screen characters which is how people subsequently visualize them in reality. There have been abundant superstars that the WWE universe has seen over the years. From the immortal Hulk Hogan to the king of Attitude Era Stone Cold Steve Austin and modern day sensation John Cena, we have witnessed some fantastic wrestlers and entertainers who have left a substantial mark in the memory of the wrestling fans.But what about their journey to stardom and the hardships behind it? How did they make it into the industry? Not all were fortunate enough to be born into wrestling families or had the financial standards to enroll themselves into the esteemed wrestling institutes. Some had to endure a difficult childhood while others had to give up college due to money problems and were forced to work in jobs that required manual labor.Despite of that, all of them worked hard and fulfilled their dream of becoming a WWE superstar. Here we take a look at where they were or what they did before entering the world of the WWE.

You probably would have figured him as a street hustler from the Thuganomics gimmick he had on TV, who likes to hustle and rap, pursuing a career in hip-hop music. And being a look like to Mark Wahlberg would make a stronger case.

But that wasn’t his story. He was a Limousine Driver. Yes, you read it right. 15-time WWE World Champion John Cena used to drive a Limo along with cleaning and maintaining the world famous Gold’s Gym. Considering the US Market rates for a Limousine Driver’s salary it might have been somewhere around $11 per hour.

Before establishing himself as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time, Steve Austin was very close to earning a degree in physical education. But he fell a few credits short and then opted to drop out of college. He began working on a loading dock for a living.

Some time later, professional wrestling caught Austin’s attention as he became seriously interested in it. In 1989, he joined Chris Adam’s wrestling school in Dallas, Texas and upon graduating, joined the United States Wrestling Association.

#3 Hulk Hogan - Bass guitarist

Prior to rocking the WWE universe with his in-ring skills, Hulk Hogan was rocking the city of Florida by playing bass guitar in several rock bands. He performed gigs for 10 years, even opting to drop out of college as it was getting in his way of music.

Hogan formed a band called Ruckus in 1976 along with two local musicians. They became a local sensation in the Tampa Bay region.

#4 Goldberg - American football player

Before spearing opponents out in the WCW and later in the WWE, Goldberg was a American Football player who was the 302nd pick in the 1990 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Later he played for the Sacramento Gold Miners and Altlanta Falcons but an injury to the lower abdomen of his pelvis cut short his unsuccessful football career.

#5 Triple H - Wendy\'s employee

The ‘King of Kings’ is one of the most powerful men in all of wrestling. He has held world titles and is part of the McMahon family. He is sitting at the top of the wrestling mountain, but did you know Triple H once worked at Wendy’s?

#6 Batista - Bouncer and bodybuilder

Batista has been never ashamed of admitting his poverty stricken childhood. The Animal had a difficult childhood growing up estranged from his parents and by the age of 13 he was stealing automobiles.

It is unknown exactly as to when he took up the job of a bouncer at a nightclub but he was arrested after injuring two patrons in a fight. Later he worked as a lifeguard before taking up professional bodybuilding as a career, which he claims got his life back on the track.

#7 Sheamus - Bodyguard

The Celtic Warrior was presented as an Irish brawler when he first came into the WWE. But his actual background reads IT technician. Sheamus also worked as a guard in a nightclub which led to his acquaintance with U2 frontman Bono and Larry Mullen Jr. Ultimately, he ended up working as their occasional bodyguard before entering the world of pro-wrestling.

#8 The Miz - Reality TV star

Today, he calls himself the “Moneymaker” after returning to the WWE with a couple of Hollywood movies added to his resume. But before opening the door to wrestling, The Miz was a reality TV star. He was a house member of The Real World Season 10 (Back to New York) and went on to do more reality TV shows like Real World/Road Rules Challenge and the Battle of the Network Reality Stars.

He also featured in the Tough Enough Boxing Challenge where Danie Puder beat him in a 3-round boxing match judged by audience reaction.

#9 Wade Barrett - Science laboratory

Currently known as Bad News Barrett, Wade Barrett was introduced into the WWE as an English bare-knuckle boxer which at first everyone thought was his gimmick. But in reality, Wade was actually a bare-knuckle brawler who was involved in underground paid fights. But that is not a job anyone could possibly be proud about.

And thankfully, Wade has an esteemed educated background. He gained a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Liverpool and worked in a science laboratory and as a recruitment consultant in Venn Group’s London Office, also pursuing a career in wrestling at the same time.

#10 The Great Khali - Police officer

Dalip Singh Rana, known as The Great Khali in the WWE is introduced as The Punjabi Giant when he makes his way into the ring. And the Punjabi giant worked as a police officer in Punjab before taking up wrestling as a career.

Imagine those big hand chops landing on the unfortunate convicts. We can be sure that criminal activities were rare in his precinct.
