There had been speculations about who John Cena was going to face at Wrestlemania and as far as speculations go, Rusev was the one to face the face of the company.Well, nobody really had foreseen how that will be played out, much less expected it to be at the Royal Rumble where Cena was going against Lesnar and Rollins and Rusev was a participant in the Royal Rumble. But the most promising feud to come out of the Rumble was between these two and it happened during the Backstage Pass part of the Network. Here are 5 Reasons how they could steal the show at Wrestlemania 31.

#5 A Lesson In Respect

This isn’t about an American and a Russian, even though Cena is the closest superstar to draw any similarity and comparison to the original real American of the WWE- Hulk Hogan.

It could have been easy for this feud to become one of those sorts but instead it is so much more. The little details work a long way. Cena’s interview was interrupted by a cocky, selfish Rusev who kept on ranting about his loss at the Rumble. Cena’s ego came to the fore and he didn’t politely ask the arrogant rookie to step away. he pushed him away. Rusev did the same.

And then there it was. That’s the crux of the story and a logical one that too. That brought both of their characters to the fore.

#4 The idiosyncracies of Rusev

There is no doubt Rusev is one of the best heels in the company right now. Creative has really clicked with this monster foreign heel character. There is something highly entertaining about Rusev trash talking in Russian and all the more interesting to hear Lana give a promo. They are a really good wrestler-manager team. And Rusev is not just another generic WWE superstar. His presence is different. He’s quite agile for a man of his build and he is someone who has more than an idea about in-ring psychology.

The fact that he doesn’t even blink an eyelid talking to Cena and equally looks at him as a serious opponent drives home a bigger point and that alone makes his character someone to watch out for

#3 The face who runs the place

Yes, there have been call outs for Cena to turn heel. That may as well never happen. He is after all the biggest heel for the ‘Cena sucks’ part of the audience.

But over the years one things that Cena has been expected to do on a consistent basis is to be a virtuous babyface. And he does that with aplomb. He is a guy who naturally comes across looking like the good guy.

But it is only in the past few years since CM Punk’s pipebomb that WWE has been able to show the proud side of Cena where he comes across as being full of his accomplishments. He knows he isn’t any roadblock, he’s the biggest deal there is.

Rusev got a piece of that mind and that has made all the difference.

#2 Learning from Wyatt

If mistakes are to go by, WWE should have learned from the mistake that they committed with having Wyatt go against John cena. Wyatt never could really redeem himself and then he went on a hiatus. Rusev is the best heel there is whom people can’t help but boo against and having him face the face of the company is giving a lot of exposure to this guy. His streak of not getting pinned, if broken by Cena will have to be done in a very careful way, if that’s the plan.

His momentum shouldn’t suffer the way Wyatt’s did.

#1 Rusev\'s time?

If Rusev has been given the chance to face John Cena, that has to mean that the management sees something very promising in him and values the work the work that he’s put in and the reaction he gets from the audience. Cena has had few feuds with such promising superstars. you don’t just get a feud with Cena that easily. Cesaro, Wyatt and Ryback have all been in that position but only few have been able to have career defining moments like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

It remains to be seen how Rusev fares.
