So here is a look at some of the moments during Hell in a Cell match that defined the gimmick.

#10 Triple H breaks his Sledgehammer

In the 2006 edition of Unforgiven, D generation X had a handicap match inside the Hell in a Cell against Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon and their henchman Big Show.

The match was an after effect of the feud that was going between the degenerates and the authority and it was a bloody affair to say the least.

After almost lasting thirty minutes, DX won the match but it would be more remembered for Hunter breaking his sledgehammer. His blow on to McMahon’s back broke his beloved weapon as the iron parted ways with wood giving the fans something to cheer about for the years to come.

The feud between Edge and Undertaker might be one of the most underrated one’s ever. The two literally tore apart eachother and one of the high points of their feud was the Hell in a cell match at SummerSlam 2008.

It went in favor of Undertaker and once the match ended, Taker was walking out through the ramp when he noticed Edge moving in the ring.

Taker then went back to finish the job and chokeslamed Edge from top of a ladder straight through the ring. He then posed in typical Taker style over his fallen opponent.

#8 Shawn Michaels crashes through a table

The very first Hell in a Cell match in the WWE saw Undertaker face Shawn Michaels at Bad Blood in 1997.

The chance for facing Bret Hart at Survivor Series for the championship was up for grab as the two men gave their everything inside the unforgiving structure. As the match progressed, both men started fighting on top of the cell.

Michaels was knocked off the cell and was left dangling from the top with Taker stomping on his fingers to make him fall. Michaels finally gave up and crashed through the announce table which turned out to be a memorable bump.

Another big moment from the Undertaker – Edge Hell in a cell match at SummerSlam 2008, this one was more extreme than the previous one.

Taker was on the receiving side this time as the ultimate opportunist used his signature move through the steel. The moves crashed open the steel panel on the side of the cell and made it surer that this match wouldn’t go without getting noticed.

Edge using the steel steps as leverage made it looks more vicious on Taker who seemed out cold after being end of that move.

#6 Edge gets chokeslamed through two tables

This is the third moment from the Taker- Edge match but one can’t argue about their credibility in the list. It was a match of epic proportions between two decorated names in the business and this bump apparently was the climax.

Taker won the match this move as Edge was crashed through two tables that were stacked in between the cell wall and the ring.

The move clearly took a big blow on Edge’s body compared to the last two ones in the list but he will be proud of the legacy he left back with this match with Undertaker.

#5 Mick Foley chokeslamed into Thumbtacks

The legendary Hell in a Cell match between Mick Foley and Undertaker redefined the gimmick due to the willingness of Foley to push the limits.

It was filled with numerous bumps that will be seen as we progress through the list and this was comparatively a smaller one. The love story between Foley and thumbtacks is not a secret and on an ordinary day it wouldn’t have been much of a surprise to see Foley getting chokeslamed into them.

However, the fact that it came after two of the biggest spots in WWE history made it more special and the changed the way we saw Mick Foley.

The Armageddon pay-per-view in 2000 saw a six man Hell in a Cell match with the lights of Rock, Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Rikishi, Steve Austin and Triple H fighting to reign victorious.

As the match progressed, Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco tried to destroy the cell with a truck but were driven away by Mick Foley.

They however didn’t take the truck away and this gave Taker the chance to pull off a big bump. He chokeslamed the huge frame of Rikishi into the truck and made a mark for the match in the history of Hell in a Cell matches.

As promised, this is another moment from the epic Foley – Taker match at King of the ring. Unlike the previous one, this one was an accident.

The cell panel wasn’t supposed to break off but the force of Taker’s chokeslam made the steel to give away. Foley went on free fall all the way to the ring and was knocked out for nearly three minutes.

Everyone including Undertaker was rooted to their foot seeing this bump but much to the surprise of everyone, Foley was able to get up and continue the match finishing it with getting chokeslamed into the thumbtacks.

Well apparently, thumbtacks weren’t the only thing that had an affair with Mick Foley. He also had a special relation with the cell panel.

After crashing through the cell roof accidently in his match against Taker, Foley took it to a next level when he faced Triple H in the 2000 edition of No Way Out.

The two men gave a brutal match and when they climbed the top of the cell, the fans were sure to see some special. And special it was. Foley was send through the cell roof again and he landed on the ring with such force that he made a big hole in it.

Many would’ve expected this to top the list and they have all the right in the world to do so. The iconic match will always be known for this moment rather than the ones before them.

Just two minutes into the match, Taker threw Foley from top of the cell right through the Spanish Announce table. The fans who hadn’t witnessed anything like that before was swept away with the risk that Foley was willing to take.

The fact of this being a planned move made it more special. The hardcore legend called Mick Foley was born long before this match but his legacy was cemented with this one.
