What if WWE superstars were movie characters: WWE superstars and their Hollywood counterparts

Fantasies have been a mainstay in the professional wrestling business right from its inception. And just like the way fans love to see Wrestling, they have a huge portion in the heart dedicated to Hollywood. There have been numerous imitations and cross overs between Hollywood and wrestling over the rich history while many Superstars like Rock and Steve Austin found a career in the films as well. And it would’ve occurred to everyone at one point or the other that how a particular wrestler would perfectly fit into a film character. There are a lot of cult characters in Hollywood that could serve as counter parts for the WWE Personnel, so here is a list of some of those superstars who are incredibly similar to characters that redefined cinema.

#10 Rocky (Rocky Series) Daniel Bryan

Rocky is a film which set the bar for underdog films. A regular face in the crowd rising up and living his dream covered with some good performance by Sylvester Stallone earned the movie an academy award but apart from that it turned out to be an inspiration to many.

Rocky did the unthinkable and achieve his dream just like Daniel Bryan did despite all the obstacles that were thrown at him.

Though Brie Bella matches nowhere near Adrian, Rocky and Bryan has a lot in common. Bryan’s fight and Rocky fight to reach the top was a treat to watch and there wouldn’t have been anyone better to represent the Italian Stallion in wrestling that Bryan.

#9 Drago and Ludmilla Vobet Drago (Rocky IV) - Rusev and Lana

The fourth movie in the Rocky Franchise delivered a wonderful message of peace through sports while there was a lot of tension between United States and Russia.

The characters Drago and Ludmilla Vobet Drago hailed from Russia with a hate for Americans. Drago was a monster inside the ring and was a man of few words while Ludmilla did all the talking.

And then there is Rusev and Lana. A clear rip off from Rocky IV, the duo is extremely hard to be separated from their Hollywood counterpart.

Everything about Rusev reminds us about Drago while Lana even has the same hairstyle that Ludmilla used to have in the film.

#8 Thor (Marvel Universe) Triple H

Who has a hammer and long blond hair? WWE fans might be confused a bit between Thor and Triple H and that is the reason why this entry makes it into the list.

Unlike others we’ve seen so far and will see in the list, Hunter and Thor doesn’t have much common in character level. Hunter calls himself the King of Kings while Thor is a god but their favorite weapon and looks make the two identical.

Just like Thor rules over his world, Hunter looks after the WWE at this point which is yet another similarity between the game and the god of thunder.

#7 Max Cady (Cape Fear) Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt has admitted various times that his character is based loosely on Max Cady. Cady was played by Robert De Niro in the film Cape Fear and turned out to be one of the most decorated ones in De Niro’s career.

The idea of using Cady as a wrestling gimmick first occurred to Waylon Marcy who due to the lack of exposure he had didn’t get a successful story.

Bray however took it to a whole different level and the way he talked added up to the character. If Hollywood goes to make Cape Fear again, Bray would be more than suitable to be casted as he is living the character at this moment.

#6 Robert Angier (The Prestige) Eric Bischoff

For the people who are not familiar with Christopher Nolan’s master piece, Prestige is a film where two magicians lock horn with eachother with a willingness to go the limits in order to prove the one is better than the other.

Angier, played by Hugh Jackman is the character that self-destructs as the competition takes over his mind. Well now replace the two magicians with WCW and WWE and Eric Bischoff playing Angier.

WCW and WWE did everything possible to put the other out of business during the Monday Night wars and Bischoff being on the WCW’s side ended up self-destructing himself while Vince McMahon had the final laugh.

#5 Nick Fury (Avengers) Vince McMahon

So the idea behind Avengers is to save the world by assembling a lot of superheroes who are incredibly hard to manage. It requires a leader of quality and power to control men of such power and Nick Fury was up to the task.

He picked up superheroes from here and there then assembled them into a single team which was able to do something that they couldn’t do alone.

Same goes for Vince McMahon. He broke the territory rules and gave the individual wrestlers a platform to perform. He has the ability and leadership to control big names like Steve Austin, Rock, Triple H, Hulk Hogan and John Cena while building up an empire that conquered the world.

#4 Two Face (Dark Knight Trilogy) John Cena

You either die a hero or you live long enough to become a villain. Both Cena and Harvey Dent live by this motto. During the initial stage, Harvey is a popular face that everyone loves. He fights relentlessly against the evil in the society.

However as time passed, he turned into a villain though he was just avenging for his lost love. Cena has a similar story but he didn’t have any love though.

The Cenation leader started off as a fan favorite in the WWE but as the time passed, he turned out to be an evil figure though he was just doing his job.

The 50- 50 response he gets from the fans are also in sync with the half burnt face of two face making Cena Two face and not Superman.

#3 Tyler Durden (Fight Club) CM Punk

Fighting the system and being the Anti – Hero is something that’s not easy to do. Tyler Durden kicked start a movement which had the same intentions.

The film was a big slap in the face of corporate culture in the world and CM Punk once did the same with his famous pipe bomb promo.

Tyler and Punk both were inside the system but fighting the injustices in a way that drew followers for them. The thing that separates these two from the Joker character (which you will see later) is the urge to win. The duo knows what they had to win and they were willing to do anything to make it happen.

#2 Joker (Dark Knight Trilogy) Dean Ambrose, Brian Pillman

Once in a while a man steps into the world. He doesn’t care about getting a win or loss, all he cares about is delivering the message and settling the scores.

That’s why the Joker in Dark Knight trilogy turned out to be cult. He was unpredictable and crazy that the fans didn’t know what to expect from him next. The same goes for Dean Ambrose.

He is the most loved character in the current roster while Brian Pillman is someone who laid foundation for such characters in the business.

Pillman was just like the Joker back during the days but sadly his life ended abruptly causing a huge loss to the professional wrestling.

#1 Billy Beane (Moneyball) Paul Heyman

The story of Billy Beane is inspirational and sad at the same time. He was the General Manager of a baseball team which didn’t have much money or the facilities.

However, with some incredible ideas, Billy transformed the team into winners only to lose out in the crucial clash.

Now, there is Paul Heyman, he had ECW which didn’t have much money or facilities but Heyman made the promotion a cult success with his idea but went bankrupt at the crucial period. He couldn’t stand up to the money that was put into the game just like Billy.

After the idea sunk, Billy had a legacy in the baseball business as all the big fishes wanted him. Well so did Paul Heyman making Billy the best counterpart for the Evil genius.
