5 tag teams from Smackdown that had potential for the long run

We all know about the sad demise of one of WWE's flagship shows, SmackDown. A weekly episodic show that even threatened to derail RAW thanks to a bunch of superstars who made the show look great every night. With fast paced action and high on adrenaline moments, Smackdown played host to some of the most memorable singles and tag team bouts in WWE history.Singling out the latter, tag teams flourished like never before on Smackdown back in the day. From the likes to Team 3D to the Los Guerreros, Smackdown was the abode of promising tag teams who wanted to make it big in the WWE. However, the company's focus on singles competition pretty much took the essence of the friday night weekly away and shut the door for the tag team division as well.Let us take a look at five such teams that showed great potential.

#1 La Resistance

Some of you might remember La Resistance through their French connection. Others might remember them through ‘Fifi’ a poodle that Rene brought to the ring each night. However, something that all of us would connect with these guys was their ‘victory dance’ in the ring. Leaping from side to side with their arms flung out.

Rene Duprée and Sylvan Grenier were two arrogant “Frenchmen” who targeted America and its foreign policies. From criticing the ‘Land of the Free’ to interrupting its nation anthem, they left no stone unturned in earning a lot of heat. Despite being young and inexperienced, they feuded with the likes of Team 3D and RVD and Kane amongst others even winning the tag team titles from the latter.

However, poor bookings in the future and meaningless ‘draft’ movements, cost them their spot of the limelight as they went to oblvion in the late 2000.

#2 The Mexicools

The concept of 3 Mexican immigrants riding a lawn mower into the ring and flinging themselves across opponents to innovatively win matches was indeed a cool idea. The Hispanic dudes were once again back in the tag team division post the disbandment of the Los Guerreros and their sole intention was to mock at the ‘stereotype’ that the Americans built around their neighbours.

Consisting of Super Crazy and Psicosis, this team won the tag titles and also came close to winning the cruiser-weight title multiple times. However, after some backstage heat on the duo, things soon fizzed out they were involved in multiple squash matches before being discarded by the WWE.

Their style of wrestling earned them a lot of praise and they will surely be remembered as a great time struck in the wrong era.

#3 The World\'s Greatest Tag Team

Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas were two of the hottest rookies posessed by the WWE back in the day. Their speed and agility earned them much praise as they were crafted into the ‘World’s greatest tag team’, a group led by Kurt Angle under a different moniker, ‘Team Angle’.

Managed by none other than Paul Heyman, the duo soared to great heights winning the tag titles twice and feuding with top stars including the likes of Edge, Lesnar and Benoit. However, the WWE draft split the duo and they were never quite the same again. Despite sporadic reformations, they never quite managed to outdo the impact gained during thir first stint.

#4 Paul London and Brian Kendrick

If there ever was one team that lived up to Smackdown’s ‘high flying’ reputation, it was the tag team duo of London and Kendrick. They redefined adrenaline rush and were loved by fans and fellow wrestlers alike. The promise they showed at such a tender age reminded one of ‘The Rockers’ back in the day.

They were quickly elevated to the teg team titles and they deservingly won their bout fagainst MNM and held it for over an year. It was the fourth longest title reign as well. Despite giving fans their due, the duo were split owing to the supplimentary draft and poor bookings called the curtains on what was one of team’s highest points in the WWE.

London and Kendrick then began a singles career and neither of them maaged to last long enough.

#5 FBI

Chuck Palumbo, Johnny Stamboli and most notably Nunzio founded the FBI (Fully blooded Italians) faction on Smackdown. A group of cut-throat Italians who maintained a ‘heel persona’ throught their WWE careers.

From their trash talking to their ‘Mafia’ antics, the trio certainly showed promise in the ring. They were often used as cannon fodder for the likes of the Undertaker, John Cena and Brock Lesnar amongst others. But, they somehow managed to remain relevant to storylines and found good bookings for PPV matches.Despite not winning any titles, they were a major attraction in the cruiser weight and the tag team divisions.

The group disbanded after Chuck and Johnny were released from the WWE. Nunzio however still hung on and found continued the faction with Vito on ECW. But that angle too played out its course and the scent of the FBI faded away from the WWE.
