WWE: Examining the past, present and future of former Shield members

The Shield, without a shadow of a doubt, was one of the best stables produced by the company in recent history. From the moment they set foot in the main roster to the moment they broke up, Shield was making headlines and winning matches like they were born for it.And just like all the stables in the past, WWE saw some great potential in all three members of the Shield as they had the ability to stand out on their own even in a star-studded roster. This was easily the motive behind WWE decided to put an end to the faction and when that much awaited moment happened, the fans were presented with three individuals who were looking to reach the top.The performance of each after the faction ending has been more than impressive so here is a look back at those and how the company could set them for the future.

#3 Roman Reigns

The Past: Reigns was always the golden boy in the pack and had that aura of his family with him. The fans believed that he was sure to be a WWE champion or even scale heights that John Cena scaled. The way in which he was pushed as part of the Shield suggested the same as he was the one doing all the big work and gaining momentum even in tag matches.

The Present: Just like the fans thought, Reigns has been pushed right into the WWE title picture by the creative team. He has been regularly headlining pay-per-view and involving in Title matches which looks to be working as a foundation for the future he is set to have. There are also rumors making round suggesting that Reigns could be the champion at Battleground which proves how high his stocks are.

The Future: Winning the WWE title might not come as soon as Battleground for Reigns but he is sure to reach there at some point of this career, probably next year. As far as his near future is concerned, the rumored feud with Triple H looks all set to happen and could run all the way to end of the year. This is very important for Reigns as he needs a five star feud under his belt before he could wear the major belt around his waist.

#2 Seth Rollins

The Past: Rollins started off his career in Shield silently. He was there in the team but was mostly overshadowed by the hyped Reigns and promo delivering Ambrose. The in ring work of Rollins was the crucial part in him breaking out of the situation as the fans slowly realized that he was the best technician in the trio. This realization helped Rollins to even get the tag of Shield leader and the one who the fans were expecting to see as the top face in the future.

The Present: in contradiction to what the fans had in their mind, WWE decided to let Rollins turn heel and be the catalyst for Shield breaking up. This was a blind blow for the WWE Universe but worked in favor of Rollins. His alignment with the Authority has helped him to establish himself as the second best heel in the roster. The Money in the Bank briefcase also came in with that and Rollins is running around the roster as one of the most exciting prospects that WWE has in their roster at this moment.

The Future: Many might think that the near future of Rollins would involve a cash in and a title win, but it is a long shot. He doesn’t have ideal cash in opportunity possibly till Night of Champions as Lesnar looks set to be involved in the title scene till then. Also another thing that the fans are waiting to happen will be Rollins turning against the authority. This is sure to happen before the year ends and could be one of the big programs that WWE would bring to the WrestleMania next year.

#1 Dean Ambrose

The Past: Ambrose was the voice of the Shield when they were intact and he used to steal the show whenever he had a microphone in his hand. He was also the superstar who got most heat when Shield was having their heel run which made the fans stamp him as a natural heel who could one day become the company’s best in that department. The WWE Universe was also expecting to see him being the catalyst for Shield breaking up until Rollins won the lottery.

The Present: Though many didn’t give Ambrose any chance without Shield, he is turning out to be the best from the lot. Ambrose is immensely over as a lunatic eager to make Rollins pay the price for his sin and the unpredictability factor makes him more successful. Ambrose is currently closer to the Jon Moxley character which was a hit in the Indies and the fans are accepting this like anything. The fans are involved in the emotions of Ambrose as they now want to see Rollins beaten up.

The Future: The rise of Ambrose was unexpected, and WWE might make full use of this in the future. He is not going to be a champion like Rollins or Reigns but will establish a cult following solely for this character and in ring performance. Once he feud with Rollins comes to an end, he could well be pushed as the top face of the company to feud with Authority or would be put in a feud with Bray Wyatt as it would give interesting dynamics.
