WWE Monday Night Raw preview: 18 January, 2016

A good direction is needed

The battle on mic between Jericho and Heyman would be epicThe new edition of Monday Night Raw is all set to conquer our screens. The homecoming edition of Royal Rumble could be a stellar one if WWE pulls the strings the right way. The undercard of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view will be something that deserves attention as only one match is booked as of now.The presence of Brock Lesnar is another major addition to the weekly flagship show and fireworks will go off when the Beast steps into the ring. That and much more will make this week’s Raw an exciting one. With that said, we are going to look at the possible things that WWE could line up.

#5 Stable wars

A good direction is needed

WWE’s love for stables is not a secret anymore. There is a handful of factions in the current roster but not all of them have clear directions. The League of Nations came in as a strong group.

However, they faded away into the background once Sheamus lost the WWE championship to Roman Reigns.

Meanwhile, the Wyatt Family has no clear direction apart from entering the Royal Rumble and probably pushing one of their monsters. Social Outcasts are fun, but just like the others, they too have no legit direction. It would be interesting to see how WWE handles all these factions on Monday night.

#4 The undercard

A match with Becky is a sure shot possibility

The undercard of the 2016 Royal Rumble is still void. We are just one week away from the pay-per-view and the only match in the card apart from the Royal Rumble match is a showdown between Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose.

A match between Charlotte and Becky Lynch is certainly a potential addition to the card. We might get to see a United States Championship rematch between Alberto Del Rio and Kalisto at the pay-per-view even though it carries less amount of heat compared to the other two title matches.

If WWE wants, they could push in the Tag Team titles into the scenario as well.

#3 Last man standing

Who will stand tall on Monday?

Following up from the last slide, the only match that WWE has booked so far for the Royal Rumble undercard is the bout between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens. It will be a Last-man-standing match for the Intercontinental Championship and before heading into such an intense bout, WWE needs to hype the same.

They have a full episode of Raw to push the match and they should not leave any leaves unturned. This match has some immense potential and could easily outclass the actual Rumble match if these superstars are given enough time and freedom.

In addition, the segment on Raw could give us a hint about who will go on to win the actual thing.

#2 Underdog story

New underdog in town

Kalisto’s win over Alberto Del Rio was one of the highlight moments from last week. It was a great underdog story to experience and the masked Luchador’s career benefited big time with the win.

In a complete letdown on the subsequent Smackdown after RAW, Alberto Del Rio won the title back from Kalisto with Wade Barrett’s help. The thing is, last week was just the start. He has a long winding road ahead of him and this week’s Raw will be the first major step.

Del Rio along with his League of Nations members are bound to come after Kalisto on Raw and Kalisto will once again be painted as the helpless underdog. This is what WWE wants at this moment and they could, in turn, book a rematch between Del Rio and Kalisto for Royal Rumble as the card is not filled as mentioned earlier.

According to reports, Alberto Del Rio would most likely put the title on the line against Kalisto on RAW this week.

#1 Highlight reel

All set to steal the show

As the name suggests, the Highlight Reel of Chris Jericho will be a highlight of this week’s Monday Night Raw. Not because it’s a segment run by Chris Jericho, but because it has Brock Lesnar as the guest.

The Beast and Paul Heyman made a huge impact last week by destroying half of the roster and this week, they will make their intentions clear about the upcoming Royal Rumble.

Most importantly, the core idea of this segment would be the duel between Paul Heyman and Jericho. Both superstars are exceptional microphone workers and they will have no trouble putting over the pay-per-view. Watching this week’s Raw just for this segment would not be a waste of time.
