WWE SummerSlam 2014: 5 Possible Returns at the pay-per-view

After the progress WWE made in their storylines, SummerSlam looks all set to be a big pay-per-view. There are some potentially solid matches and intriguing angles being prepared in the backstage to ensure that but WWE could make the show even bigger if they want to.Returns have always been a weak point for the WWE Universe and this was there to see recently when superstars like Chris Jericho, Miz and AJ Lee made their returns. All those returns was pulled off in a comparatively smaller stage and still ended up being success stories. If the writers decide to replicate this at SummerSlam, this is sure to steal the headlines so here is a look at the possible Superstar returns that the WWE fans could see at the companys next pay-per-view outing.

#5 CM Punk

The fans who were expecting to see Punk make his return before his contract ran out ended up being disappointed as all those expectations came shattering down last week.

Punk apparently has no connections with the WWE anymore and is seeking new careers which will keep him busy. The superstar making a return at SummerSlam is one of the least likely incidents which is one of the reasons why he is on the list.

The fans would be caught completely blindsided if Punk returns at the pay-per-view making it a sure headline grabber of the night.

Also he has a rich history with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman which could be further progressed to Night of Champions where the WWE will be desperate for Network renewals.

It’s just a slight ray of hope that feeds this idea and since professional wrestling business is full of moments like this, one can’t just stop hoping.

#4 Sting

This is technically not a return as Sting has never wrestled in a WWE ring. However, the fans have been feeding the idea of seeing Sting in the company for more than a decade now.

Now that the Icon is associated with the WWE in some way, an appearance at SummerSlam even for the promotion of WWE 2K15 would be groundbreaking. Sting is without a doubt a big show player and August 17 is as big as it gets.

Also he could come out and challenge the Undertaker if the Phenom has one last match left in him or just become a new Authority figure who wants to end the reign of Hunter and Stephanie McMahon.

The possibilities with Sting are endless though he is well past his prime and WWE should make it happen soon so that they could root their fans into the seats instead of running away.

#3 Daniel Bryan

Bryan recently entered the headlines by protecting his house from a burglar and he could protect his wife at SummerSlam if WWE lets him to do so.

The Angle between Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella is sure to get a good spot in the pay-per-view match card after the heated segment that they had on Raw. Stephanie got arrested as a result and she is going to do everything in her power to make sure that Brie pays for that.

Hunter at the same time would be lending all the help he can to his lovely wife and will be in her corner if she faces Brie. This opens the door for Bryan to do a similar thing to make sure that Hunter doesn’t have a say in the result of the match.

This could reignite the friction that Triple H and Bryan had setting a match between the two when the flying goat is fit to wrestle.

#2 Batista

Batista’s return after a long hiatus went in vain due to some poor booking from the WWE creative team. The fans couldn’t digest the fact that a part timer could come in and win the Royal Rumble just like that making all the regular names look like clowns.

Bryan’s absence in the Royal Rumble and Punk walking out of the company further made the situation worse for the Animal and his ring rust didn’t do any good either.

That was the past and Batista might no longer have that hesitation inside the ring now that he has headlined a couple of pay-per-views this year.

A heel return is ideal for the superstar at SummerSlam and could be put in a program with any of the main event stars who is in need of a big name to get over.

#1 Undertaker

Undertaker making an appearance at SummerSlam is simply the best thing that the WWE universe can get at the pay-per-view. He hasn’t been in front of the fans since his streak ended at WrestleMania and there is a lot of questions left to be answered.

And one of those questions is: Was that the last match of Undertaker?

It’s an answer that every wrestling and non – wrestling fans would love to hear and at this point, the biggest stage Taker could get is SummerSlam.

He need not come out and wrestle a big match, he just have to be there to address the fans in his true style. Only some words need to be spelled out which puts some light into the future of the Phenom.

If he tells that he is retired from wrestling, it will be show stealer for SummerSlam and if he tells that he has one more match left in him, it still a show stealer for SummerSlam.
