5 facts about the Shield and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The future is now

The shield was one of WWE’s greatest stables, beloved by many and hailed as the future of the business. The split was unfortunate but had to happen in order for the three future WWE stars to begin on the road to becoming the greatest singles competitors they could be.

All three members, as of now, have held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and there are some interesting facts that you might not have known about The Shield and the WWE title.

Here we take a look at 5 of those facts you might have missed.

#5 3-2-1

The former stable standing tall

As of now Roman has 3 WWE title reigns, Rollins has 2 and Ambrose has 1.

Of course, all of these stars are destined to have more title reigns in the future, but as it stands now they have a 3-2-1 on each other. With the Shield Triple Threat scheduled for Battleground, there might be a change in this status quo soon.

#4 They have become one of the elite stables

Evolution holds all the gold

The three members of The Shield join the list that features few of the elite stables in history from which all the members of the stable were WWE World Champions.

Most times in history when a stable or team breaks one star would become a champion while the other fizzles out. For example, Jeff Hardy won the big one and Matt didn’t. Shield, now joins the list which includes the likes of Evolution, the initial D-Generation X and Edge and Christion where all the members have won the big one at some point.

It just goes to show how talented the three men are.

#3 They have all kickstarted their title reigns with one another

Rollins stands tall after pinning Roman Reigns

It is an interesting fact to note that all the members of the Shield pinned each other to win their first WWE titles.

It goes as follows:

– Seth Rollins pinned Roman Reigns for his first WWE Championship title reign at WrestleMania 31

– Roman Reigns pinned Dean Ambrose for his first WWE Championship title reign at Survivor Series 2015

– Dean Ambrose pinned Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank for his first WWE Championship title reign.

All three men have been responsible for the rise of their counterparts as main event players in the WWE.

#2 All 3 men were world champion on the same night

“and here are your winners”

At this year’s Money in the Bank PPV, all three members of the shield were the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

It’s quite incredible to think about it really. Roman Reigns walked in the champion. He was then beaten by Seth Rollins clean in the middle of the ring (a total shock) and Dean Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Seth to win the title for himself for the first time.

It was a predictable cash in but it very effective sets up so much for the former Shield members for the future.

#1 They have been involved in all WWE title contests in the past year

“We are here to stay”

The most interesting fact about The Shield and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is that every single televised match that WWE has put on since the Royal Rumble 2015, well over a year ago, has contained at least one member of The Shield in it.

Some matches have contained two of them at times.

That just goes to show the faith and the investment the WWE has in them.
