5 reasons Roman Reigns will remain WWE World Heavyweight Champion

There’s a reason he has a big smile

A lot of us still can’t believe that Roman Reigns remains WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It’s hard to think of a WWE Superstar who has received the intensity of heat the Rock’s cousin is getting as Champion.

As much as we hate seeing him carry the title, there really isn’t much we can do about it. I mean, even the cleaners at WWE must have heard Reigns being booed by the fans. I still scratch my head trying to make heads or tails of the way he’s being booked.

But, I think Reigns will not drop the title anytime soon. Here are 5 reasons why Roman Reigns will remain WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWING

In the world of pro-wrestling, popularity matters a lot. Turns out, Roman Reigns is quite popular. While it is true that there is a large section of the WWE Universe that detests The Guy, social media figures emphasize that Roman Reigns has a pretty huge fanbase.

He has over 13 million likes on his facebook page, Triple H has over 12 million. His former Shield brethren, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose have about 2 million and 6 million likes respectively.

In other words, he is more popular than Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, and his former Shield brethren combined. Plus, with 1.61 million followers on Twitter, he trumps his challengers there too.

Just goes to show that there’s a large chunk of the WWE Universe behind Roman Reigns.

VINCE MCMAHON LOVES HIM

Golden boy

It’s no secret. The Chairman of the WWE seems to have something special for the Rock’s cousin. How else would one explain the location of the title belt? But it’s hard to tell what exactly it is the Vince and his surprisingly huge fan base seem to like about him. I’m not going to rant about the lack of mic skills, in ring skills, charisma, move set, ability to sell promos, etc.

Once the boss likes you, you will become WWE champion, or that’s how the saying goes in the WWE, I believe.

THE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER

We know AJ, we know

Before you misinterpret the title, please allow me to clarify - phenomenal does not even begin to describe the man. He is easily one of the best wrestlers of this generation. There are very few wrestlers today that can match his ring abilities. Granted, he isn’t the best worker on the mic, but he more than makes for it with his matches. So what exactly is wrong with AJ Styles? Well, it’s actually his past. He’s a TNA guy. He spent more than a decade there. I’m not saying that AJ Styles will never win the title, I just don’t think that he will win it at the next pay per view. Plus, with Gallows and Anderson joining, I think we’re going to see an angle involving the former Bullet Club members and the Rock’s cousin.

CURRENT BOOKING

Invincible

Roman Reigns may have lost his 6-man tag team match on Raw, but until Gallows and Anderson managed to put him away for a while, it did look as if he was making short work of them.

Even their previous encounters looked so. Given how strong he’s being made to look, it doesn’t look like he’s going to drop the title anytime soon. The way he’s going, as lot of people have put it, reminds us a lot of John Cena’s “Super Cena” run.

LACK OF CONTENDERS

One rung below

All right, the way other contenders are being booked after the segment on the Raw after WrestleMania, it doesn’t look like they’re going to get a title shot anytime soon. Kevin Owens, Cesaro and Sami Zayn are all vying for the Intercontinental Championship.

They’re not in the WWE Championship picture anymore, at least for the near future. I think a lot of people would agree when I say that at least one of these men deserves a title shot.
