5 reasons why Triple H turned heel on WWE SmackDown

It's official. Triple H has turned heel again. Not only The Game, but Charlotte Flair seemingly turned heel too, refusing handshakes, acting annoying and showing all kinds of heelish tendencies as well.

Triple H came out and interrupted Becky Lynch's segment with Charlotte Flair and told The Queen to leave as the matter at hand didn't concern her. Becky Lynch made her way to SmackDown Live like a true babyface, entering from the crowd.

Becky Lynch stood her ground throughout the segment, not allowing herself to be escorted by referees and backstage officials. Triple H then went full-authority mode on her. He completely berated The Man, telling him that he believed her hype at first.

Moreover, when taunted about Stephanie McMahon's health after getting smacked in the jaw by Becky Lynch, he accused the Royal Rumble winner of faking an injury because she's "scared" of Ronda Rousey.

Triple H was a babyface since the Super Show-Down build-up, so why did he turn heel again? We give you five reasons why.

#5 To put over Becky Lynch as an underdog

WWE is heavily investing in Becky Lynch and it shows. After she turned at SummerSlam last year, her popularity only skyrocketed. Since then, she hasn't really been portrayed as an underdog, and that's a good thing.

However, to get more people behind her on the biggest stage of them all, WWE probably feels the need to put her in an underdog position. Thankfully, it's not the "previous" incarnation of Becky Lynch, as she has a lot more personality now.

So she does, in certain ways, come across as a "Stone Cold"-type babyface, in that she's placed in an underdog role but doesn't have an underdog attitude. She's stood face to face with John Cena, Ronda Rousey, Stephanie McMahon and now Triple H - all in just over a month!

#4 To take on the "Authority" role when fans get behind someone

This is a mixed bag depending on what perspective you look at it. On one hand, it's really good because the attempt and endgame is clearly to get Becky Lynch over. Whenever WWE is heavily invested in someone, or the fans are extremely passionate about a WWE superstar, we've seen Stephanie McMahon and Triple H play the role of the bad guys who are a foil to their plans.

On the other hand, haven't we already seen this before many times? Atleast once a year now, we see Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have their own brief "Authority moments" where they berate superstars to try and get them over.

It's a negative from our perspective, but if anything, it further affirms that Becky Lynch will have her moment at WrestleMania. It's incredible to think of how far she's come.

#3 Dean Ambrose is turning babyface again

“Do you need to ask permission from your father-in-law to make this match?” Ambrose asks.

Last night on RAW, we saw Dean Ambrose interrupt at A Moment of Bliss, featuring Alexa Bliss herself, Nia Jax, Tamina and the newly debuting EC3.

The interesting part was that Ambrose showed old babyface tendencies again. He showed off the comedic side of his character which we saw a lot during his last babyface run. And after the Royal Rumble, Ambrose even teased a feud with The Game.

It's possible that they're trying to achieve more than one thing here, and having a heel Triple H go up against a babyface Dean Ambrose would definitely be ideal on the grandest stage of them all.

We all know about Ambrose's contract status, and if it is all a work, then don't be surprised to see Ambrose pick up the win. If Triple H wins, then we know exactly what that means for Ambrose.

#2 To defend his wife in storyline

He tells The Man that she needs to get cleared from the doctor.

In storyline, doesn't it make sense that Triple H would defend the honour of his wife Stephanie McMahon? After all, Becky Lynch just assaulted her on Monday Night on RAW?

It's true that Stephanie McMahon acted like a heel towards the end, but the fact of the matter is the overall gist of her promo wasn't fully wrong. Telling a competitor, or rather, forcing a competitor to get medically checked for an evident injury isn't exactly a bad thing to do.

Either way, say what you will, but for once, Stephanie McMahon wasn't fully wrong in what she said. Intentionally kicking her knee in "self-defence" isn't a babyface thing to do, but we'll ignore that for now.

So in a way, it does make sense that Triple H would stand up for his wife and berate the woman that attacked her. Moreover, defending Stephanie would mean instant heat for The Game.

#1 To align with Charlotte Flair or Ronda Rousey

WWE Photo

Triple H did send Charlotte Flair out of the ring telling her that the matter didn't concern her, but that doesn't mean an alliance of sorts can't be formed until then. It's no secret that Charlotte Flair is going to find her way into the RAW Women's title match at WrestleMania, and one of the ways she gets into the match may very well be in the form of an alliance with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

After all, Charlotte is the office golden girl, and forming an alliance with two authority figures makes sense. If not Charlotte Flair, then Ronda Rousey may align with the power couple. Sure, she was feuding with them less than a year ago, but we all know how easily past differences are forgotten about in WWE.

And given that neither Charlotte nor Rousey will be cheered against Becky Lynch, WWE may choose to have one of them align with the authority figures.
