5 Things that would have been better without Brock Lesnar

Is Brock Lesnar destroying the business, like his opponents?

Brock Lesnar is not human. He is a genetic freak who can destroy, dismember and demolish his opponents, both in kayfabe and in reality. He is a certified monster, and people pay big bucks to see him crush anyone who dares to take him on. He is also a big merchandise seller, and it is not uncommon to see ‘Suplex City’ t-shirts everywhere you look.

But today, we wonder and speculate if WWE would have been a better place without ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar. Despite all the advantages he brings to the table, without his presence, certain outcomes could have transpired differently. And would have made WWE a better place. Read on...

  1. Someone more deserving could have broken the streak

When The Streak was broken, Paul Heyman had a toothache

We’ve heard it time and time again. Brock Lesnar was the 1 in 21-1 and is now the 1 in 23-1. He broke The Undertaker’s undefeated reign at Wrestlemania and went on to be booked as the unbeatable monster we see today. Although Brock Lesnar certainly has the physique, the background, and the legitimate fighting skills to be the man who broke the legendary ‘Streak’, we really wonder if it was the right choice.

The Wrestlemania brand was built around ‘The Streak’, and having a part time wrestler go over The Undertaker, who has been one of the most central figures in sports entertainment, seems poor judgement. The company may have been better served by having a younger, full-time star be the one to go over The Phenom.

As we’ve heard many times, The Undertaker is a company guy and would have done the job, for a promising superstar.

  1. Dean Ambrose would have looked like a legitimate WWE Champion

No amount of weapons can destroy bad booking

At Money in the Bank, Dean Ambrose cashed in his contract against Seth Rollins and became the WWE Champion. A glorious (sorry Mr. Roode) feat indeed. However, the WWE Universe has had a tough time accepting him as a legitimate champion, after he was simply demolished and tossed around like a rag doll by Brock Lesnar in front of over 100,000 people at Wrestlemania 32.

As we learned from Ambrose on the Stone Cold Podcast, Brock Lesnar was lazy in the ring that night. We’re not saying Ambrose needed to have won that match, but a more competitive encounter would have showcased Ambrose in a better light, and allowed us to take him more seriously as Champion.

  1. We would have had a new Paul Heyman guy

Is Paul Heyman scouting for the next big thing in wrestling?

Unlike Vince McMahon, Ted Turner and Dixie Carter, Paul Heyman always seems to have his finger on the pulse. He has the innate ability to predict the next big superstar in wrestling. Currently, with ratings sinking like The Titanic on its fateful night, the world really needs the future of WWE to make his presence felt. Heyman picked Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rob Van Dam, and C.M. Punk as his ‘guys’, even though none of them fit the mold of the superstars most companies look for.

But ever since his latest association with Brock Lesnar, he seems to be content in that role. And very honestly, we think that this gimmick has run its course with stale promos being repeated, week after week. WWE needs the next Paul Heyman guy (or girl) to step up to the plate, and hit a home run, for the long term sustenance of the brand.

  1. UFC Fighters would not be booked stronger than WWE Stars

Brock made the octagon into the Brocktagon

Now we’re not saying that Lesnar was never booked as a monster prior to his UFC run (because he was), but ever since his comeback, he’s been made to look stronger than ever. Both John Cena and Randy Orton barely got any offence in, during their big matches with The Beast on PPV, and like we’ve mentioned before, neither did Ambrose.

This has made an already depleting WWE audience take UFC more seriously than WWE. The booking of Lesnar needs to be made more believable, very soon.

  1. Locker room heat would have defused

What do you think they’re discussing? Food?

Brock Lesnar has a different set of rules that apply to him than the rest of the locker room. He cannot be suspended for failing drug tests, he doesn’t get punished for going off the script or dropping S-bombs, and he has a lighter schedule than the rest of the guys.

Moreover, his recent altercation with locker room leader Chris Jericho did not do him any favours. WWE comes off as hypocritical for enforcing a set of rules for Brock, and another for the rest of the guys. Something that probably destroys the morale of the wrestlers backstage.
