Analyzing WWE’s recent snubbing of Kurt Angle

Looking at the reasons why WWE recently snubbed Kurt Angle

WWE has always been open to former superstars returning for one last run with the organization. In their 50s and 60s, superstars such as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan were given numerous chances by the organization, not only to make sporadic appearances after signing them to a Legends’ deal, but also to step inside the WWE ring and be involved in a bout in some capacity. WWE has always been open to yesteryear’s superstars coming back, to bring the nostalgic feeling that the WWE Universe loves. Superstars such as Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and even The Ultimate Warrior, who fell out with the WWE chairman nearly two decades ago, were brought back for one night by the WWE.

However, if reports are to be believed, one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time wanted to see if he could return to the biggest sports entertainment organization in the world, but his wish was turned down by the head of talent relations, Paul Levesque aka Triple H, and when Kurt Angle tried to go over Triple H by contacting Vince McMahon himself, he was told that the decisions were now taken by Paul when it comes to the talent. This obviously didn’t please the 13 time world champion, and reports also suggest that he didn’t take Kurt’s decision to go behind his back positively.

Why Kurt should’ve been brought back

First off, it is Kurt Angle – A former Olympic gold medalist, a multiple time WWE/World Heavyweight champion in the WWE, and a 5 time TNA World champion. Kurt Angle is considered to be one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time, and finds himself in the elite list of the greatest ring generals in the history of professional wrestling! When someone like Bret Hart mentions that he would’ve liked to wrestle Kurt Angle if he hadn’t retired, that gives you an idea of how amazing of a wrestler the former Olympic gold medalist is. Kurt Angle, even in his late 40s, can out wrestle 80% of the talent in the WWE and TNA locker room.

Brock Lesnar was brought back to the WWE nearly after a decade of leaving the company on bad terms, and was given the honor of breaking The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, and also the opportunity of becoming the WWE World Heavyweight champion when he defeated the 15 time World champion, John Cena at SummerSlam. Back in 2010, people considered The Undertaker – Brock Lesnar match at WrestleMania as their ‘dream match’, and the same logic applies to Kurt Angle, with the fans clamoring to see Daniel Bryan taking on Kurt – a match which undoubtedly will go down as one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time if it happens.

Kurt obviously didn’t leave the WWE without ticking a few people off, and his shoots on the WWE and Triple H didn’t please the management in Stamford. But WWE has always been open to bringing past stars who didn’t necessarily leave on good terms with the management, and bringing in someone who has such a history with the company shouldn’t be a problem.

Reasons why WWE might have snubbed Kurt Angle

On the other hand, it also makes sense that the WWE wouldn’t be willing to bring in someone who has had his fair share of issues with the law. WWE, in the past few years, has done everything an organization could do to distance itself from drugs and banned substances, and bringing in someone who, in recent years, has had his problems with DUIs and abusing pills and pain killers might send out the wrong message. One of the major reasons why WWE might not be interested in signing Jeff Hardy down the line would be because of the same reasons.

In August last year, Kurt was once again arrested for DUI, and he immediately stated that he was going to check himself in at a rehabilitation center. With his history of arrests and drunk driving, and also his age catching up with him, WWE’s decision to move on with the younger talent also makes sense. The former King of the Ring winner didn’t do himself any favors when he spoke openly against Triple H, Shawn Michaels and other talents, and it only escalated when he was vocal about Chris Benoit’s tragic incident. It didn’t raise a lot of eye brows when Triple H told Kurt that WWE wasn’t interested in his services, but it would be a shame if he didn’t make an appearance before he hangs up his boots for good.
