On a brief appearance on Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast, SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan hinted that he might have to leave WWE, once his baby is born next year. He said:
“Once we have the baby that is the tough part. It’s like, man, do I really want to leave the baby…; there are times on SmackDown that I don’t even want to be on it. I only want to be on it when it’s absolutely necessary for me as the GM to be out there.”
He said that, while Brie wants to have a comeback once she has the baby, he is not sure he would want to leave the baby to tour with WWE. He has made it clear that he is still in two minds about the fact that he won’t be able to wrestle again. However, once the baby comes in, he is very unlikely to have much time to think about it.
The couple is expecting a baby girl, who is likely to be born before Summerslam. Brie has mentioned in the past that she will not be able to make a Wrestlemania comeback but maintained that a Summerslam comeback is very possible, even if it is just for a one-off match.
In the interview, Bryan also spoke about his “edginess” on Talking Smack and his straight up shoot style, and how more often than not, he has people yelling in his ear not to say something. He attributed his ‘edginess’ to his current situation of WWE not wanting to let him go.
He compared it to the Monday Night Wars, where if one company fired a talent, they could always jump ship to the other company. He asked rhetorically “What are they going to do? Fire me?”; implying that he could always go wrestle again elsewhere, and WWE would get the shorter end of the stick with bad PR.
Bryan also said that the main purpose of Talking Smack and the main objective of both him and co-host Renee Young is to help the talent get over. Here is an example of Bryan’s shoot style on Talking Smack:
