WWE News: Daniel Bryan breaks kayfabe while criticising Mick Foley

Daniel Bryan reiterated the fact that he was enjoying his job as SmackDown Live GM

The new ‘State of the WWE Universe’ premiered on the WWE Network this past Monday night. The show started with Renee Young, discussing the events that transpired between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg during the show, with Paul Heyman.

However, the main highlight of the show was the intense debate between Daniel Bryan and Mick Foley, where Bryan went off script and mentioned TNA.

In a debate that ensued between the RAW and SmackDown managers, Foley and Bryan did not mince words. At one point during the debate, Foley accused Bryan of not wanting to be SmackDown Live’s General Manager.

Bryan retaliated by saying that although he would prefer wrestling in the ring, to orchestrating the action as General manager, he was still enjoying his job as SmackDown GM. In fact, Bryan immediately shot back at Foley claiming that he had done the same thing back in 2001 and resigned his position as GM.

Bryan pointed out that Foley had also shed the manager persona in the past, to go and wrestle in TNA.

Now the WWE is a company that has always stayed away from mentioning its rival companies in its programming. WWE has always steered clear of directly mentioning the WCW, TNA or even UFC, thereby ensuring that any other promotion does not make money off them. It was surprising that AJ styles had the liberty to go on about his days in TNA during the Stone Cold Podcast.

Stephanie quickly took it upon herself to change the topic to Survivor Series and claimed that the red brand, would reign supreme at the end of the night. Although Shane, Mick and Bryan were pumped and often went off script, Stephanie maintained kayfabe.

It looks like WWE are trying to base this new show, off the success that Talking Smack has enjoyed in the past. If we are to go by the first episode, then the WWE Universe is in for a treat with many more shoot style promos to come down the line.
