WWE News: Kurt Angle opens up about his backstage confrontations with Eddie Guerrero and Brock Lesnar

Kurt Angle is now the RAW General Manager

What’s the story?

Kurt Angle recently appeared on Chris Jericho’s podcast, Talk is Jericho. The Olympic gold medallist talked about Vince McMahon, his backstage scuffle with Eddie Guerrero, his amateur wrestling bout with Brock Lesnar and the chances of having one last match in WWE.

In case you didn’t know...

A multiple time World Champion, and an Olympic gold medallist, Kurt Angle is one of the greatest performers in the history of professional wrestling. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania Weekend, and he was subsequently named the General Manager of Monday Night Raw.

The heart of the matter

Angle said that he was in a bad place in life when he left the WWE. He told Jericho that his body was worn out, and he was taking a lot of painkillers. Angle revealed that Vince McMahon offered to help him, but things did not work out back then. The Olympian also said that he was pleasantly surprised when Vince welcomed him back to the company with open arms.

Angle recalled an incident where he and Eddie Guerrero got into a shoot fight backstage. Eddie had approached Kurt over an incident in the ring and Angle shoved him away. Angle said that Eddie then went for a double legged takedown. Angle stated that his amateur wrestling skills came in handy and he soon got the advantage and started choking Eddie before the Big Show separated the two. Angle concluded by saying that he and Eddie were like brothers and that incident only brought them closer.

Angle also recalled another instance when he and Lesnar got into a shoot wrestling match where Kurt emerged victorious. He said that despite his size advantage, Brock was never a technically gifted wrestler.

Angle told Jericho that he was happy to be in the WWE. The WWE Hall of Famer addressed rumours about him competing in a match and stated that he had a word with Triple H about the issue but nothing was set in stone. He also said that he was focused on his job as the General Manager of Raw and as an ambassador for the company.

What’s next?

Kurt will have his hands full in the coming weeks in the aftermath of the Superstar Shakeup. And with WWE Payback scheduled for the end of the month, the RAW General Manager will be at the helm of things on Monday Nights.

Author's take

Kurt Angle is one of the greatest to ever lace a pair of boots. Given that he is an Olympic gold medallist, it’s no surprise that he easily overpowered Eddie Guerrero and Brock Lesnar. What matters is that Kurt made peace with Eddie before the latter passed away.

As far as another match is concerned, Kurt needs to pass the physical tests before he can step into the ring for one last time.
