The first Summerslam event was in 1987
  • This year, the 29th annual WWE Summerslam pay-per-view will be taking place. SummerSlam is considered as one of main four pay-per-view events alongside Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and WrestleMania. It will be held on August 21st, this year. Like the previous year, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York will be hosting the pay-per-view. The event will also air Live on the WWE Network.
  • As Summerslam is only three months away, WWE creative and officials have started to work on the event’s match card. According to the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the upper card for the pay-per-view has already been decided. John Cena, Brock Lesnar and the current WWE Champion, Roman Reigns will definitely be in action in the biggest matches at SummerSlam.
  • There has been no decision made regarding Brock Lesnar’s opponent for the event. Braun Strowman or Bray Wyatt are rumored as the opponents but the idea was dropped. Lesnar, who is currently inactive, will be reappearing prior to SummerSlam to build-up his match.
  • Cagesideseats.com reports that the rivalry between the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will continue even after the Money in the Bank pay-per-view next month. It is rumored that there will be multiple matches between the two and it may culminate at the SummerSlam pay-per-view.
