WWE SmackDown Live Preview: 20 September, 2016

What does the next chapter hold?

After a great show last Sunday night at Backlash, SmackDown backed it up with another excellent outing on Tuesday night. Last week’s episode of SmackDown excelled on so many levels and the fans were happy about it as well. While this is a good thing, there will be extra pressure on the creative team to deliver the goods again this week.

With the seeds that were sown past week, this week’s SmackDown does have the potential to be an excellent show altogether. Here is a rundown on the segments that WWE could come up with in the latest edition of SmackDown Live.

Contract negotiations of The Miz

Headed to Raw?

Daniel Bryan opened contract negotiations with The Miz last week and this is bound to be a major storyline on the upcoming episode. From what was reported on WWE.com, the contract negotiations between Bryan and Miz broke down and with the history that these two have, things are going to get interesting when they come in front of the cameras.

There was also a mention from Miz about moving to Monday Night Raw stating that Bryan is a weak manager. With so many such factors contributing to the storyline, it might get the center of attention this week and rightfully so.

Heel Usos behind tag team champions

Title bound

The Usos lost out to Heath Slater and Rhyno at Backlash but they came back strongly by defeating the Hype Bros last week on SmackDown. Rhyno and Slater meanwhile got a good win over Ascension at the show. The rumors suggest that Usos will have a Tag team championship program with Slater and Rhyno soon and last week’s results indicate the same.

With American Alpha out of actions, Usos are indeed the top contenders for the tag team championships in SmackDown and we might get to see the first part of this title feud this week. There are also rumors about Slater and Rhyno dropping the title soon so watch out for the whole scenario.

Jack Swagger goes blue

Swagger came back strongly

A big surprise that happened last week was the SmackDown return of Jack Swagger. During the draft, Swagger was drafted to Monday Night Raw but the Real American failed to make any sort of impact on the brand. Last week, he showed up on SmackDown and announced that it was his new home. With a less packed roster on the brand, Swagger will get more chances on SmackDown but the time period of his current push might not be a long one.

He seems to be heading into a storyline with Baron Corbin from the looks of it and as Corbin is a superstar that has gained some love from WWE backstage officials, the feud might not end well for Swagger.

The new number one contender

The new contender

The Women’s championship in SmackDown got a new contender in the form of Alexa Bliss this past week. Alexa outclassed four other divas on the roster to get the title shot and she now has to back up her win. The Alexa – Becky feud does grab the attention of WWE Universe and if booked correctly, it could turn into a huge success.

Elsewhere, Nikki Bella and Carmella are having the second main feud of the division. It will be a come out party for Carmella if she gets over Nikki and WWE could make a star out of her in no time. She does have the microphone skill to hang around and all she needs now is a credible booking.

The main event triple threat

The three way battle

The WWE championship scenario got a lot more interesting with the addition of John Cena last week. The Cenation leader returned after a shot hiatus and challenged AJ Styles for the title. It soon turned into a triple threat by the addition of Dean Ambrose. Cena’s main motive here is to break the record of Ric Flair, in turn raising the stake of the feud.

Ambrose getting one over Cena also showcased how differently wired he is and lets the door wide open for a potential heel turn from the Lunatic fringe in the near future. After the tag team main event last week, WWE will have to come up creative ways to build up this three-way battle.
