WWE: Top 5 fictional characters today

There was time when WWE was clearly built on the foundational power of the fictional character. Hulk Hogan, Macho man, Jake ‘the snake’ Roberts, Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, The rock- they’re all the definition of fiction. The charisma clearly shone through and now they’re few of the most beloved WWE characters. You won’t find many real life characters like these who are as respected. The WWE provided such environment for such outlandish characters to exist. With the advent of the information technology, novelty has hit a roadblock but WWE still manages to pull out a trump card as far as fiction goes. Punk, Heyman, Triple H, Stephanie all have a shade of Non-fiction in their characters but here are today’s top fictional characters.

5) Bray Wyatt

Husky Harris went and transformed himself to Bray Wyatt, the creepy, mysterious Buzzard who eeringky talks about his late sister Abigail and a leader to an equally weird clan of followers. Well, they’re actually not a clan but their mere presence seems equal to the physical power of a clan. One of the most awaited superstars to be called up on the roster, their video promos have delivered thus far but the in ring or arena work still looks vulnerable to be stuck in creative limbo. But the stranger, the merrier.

4) The Undertaker and Kane

I know, they should be much higher on the list. I think Undertaker should be the highest on any such list. It’s a phenomenal job to carry this dark, macabre gimmick for more than 20 years. It’s testament to the power of wrestling to create such superhumans. He paved the way for creepy big guys to work. Kane’s character became amply more intimidating because of the towering presence of Undertaker. I was seriously scared of kane when I was a little girl. The red and blue combination never fails to amaze.

But they are not wrestling at the moment. Kane might just return but it’s a much longer wait for the Undertaker.

3) John Cena

Okay, so nobody can be as perfect as Mr Cena in real life. For sure. He is a picture of perfection in the WWE and hence will always remain the exclusive face of the WWE rather than the imperfect heroes like Punk and Bryan.

He is a man with the perfect of ideals and the perfect picture of reason. This is the particular reason why he never stops getting a reaction. I am pretty sure the real John Cena is not as perfect either. He’s either perfectly boring to some. Or perfectly heroic to some.

2) Fandango

Say what you may, there is a lot of potential in this gimmick. He might seem effeminate to some and a cool, arrogant guy to some but the clear contrast of a ballroom dancer and a wrestler is baffling and pure fiction. He is stuck in creative limbo for now but it does not take away from the fact that his character is distinct.

1) Damien Sandow

Where art thou, Sandow? He was not present on Raw or Smackdown this week, but the man he beat for the MITB suitcase is shining like the brightest star right now. Sandow was Aaron Stevens once and was released from WWE but came back with this gimmick and even if he was stuck in creative limbo in this gimmick, he never fails to entertain. Even in this video where he’s giving an interview, he hardly breaks character.

May you not remain our uncrowned World Heavyweight Champion for long!
