?lkay Gündo?an (Borussia Dortmund)

This midfield genius has often been compared to Xavi, Iniesta or even United’s very own Michael Carrick. Known for his brilliant, mind-boggling passing game, Gündo?an has started to prove that he is as good as the pass-masters of modern football.

United are going to need a successor to the recently-retired Paul Scholes, and they need someone as crafty as Michael Carrick in the central midfield position. The person who could form one of the most formidable midfield forces is ?lkay Gündo?an.

Chances of it happening – 2/10 : He seems eager to sign a contract extension with BVB. He was a central figure in Dortmund winning the Bundesliga in 2012.

Price - £27 to 30m. He’s worth every single penny, because he is growing to become one of the dominant midfielders in the world.

Juventus FC v AC Cesena - Serie A

Claudio Marchisio (Juventus)

Claudio Marchisio is the ultimate midfield prize of Juventus (obviously alongside Pirlo and Vida ), making over 170 appearances for Juventus, scoring above 25 goals. Knowing that he has everything a complete midfielder needs, United are never far away to ratify the Italian.

Chances of it happening – 2/10 : He is ridiculously overpriced by Juve ( valued at £30m ) and he is the glue that keeps The Old Lady’s midfield together, so he will not be allowed to leave easily.

Price - £20m is perfect because he is in his late 20s but he has been in scintillating form this year, being able to switch quickly defensively and offensively alongside Vidal and Pirlo.

SL Benfica Training - UEFA Europa League Final

Nemanja Mati? (Benfica)

He was a flop at Chelsea but has reached scintillating heights in Portugal. His style is compared to Xabi Alonso’s style of play. He is not really popular, but if given a chance under Moyes, he would shine as a player in the EPL.

Chances of it happening – 3/10 : When Chelsea tried to buy him back, Benfica demanded £34m for him. If cash-rich clubs like Chelsea don’t succeed in buying him, it means Benfica are hell-bent on keeping him in Portugal.

Price - £34 million is ridiculous.
