A former WWE star recently disclosed how a creative pitch for a character involving Cope (fka Edge) got nixed in AEW. The talent is no longer with All Elite Wrestling.

Cope was a big part of the creative idea that ex-WWE star Maria Kanellis pitched to AEW. Kanellis is known for her time in the Stamford-based promotion, where she had two different runs. She was also signed with AEW as a manager and valet until her departure earlier this year.

During a recent K & S Wrestlefest virtual signing, Maria Kanellis opened up about how she wanted to again play the 'ditzy' gimmick from her time in WWE. Kanellis also revealed that she wanted to call Adam Copeland by his iconic ring name, Edge, as part of the character in AEW.

“That’s one of the things I wanted to play again [Kanellis said when it was mentioned that she played the ‘ditz’ role well]. I really wish I got to do it one more time. I think you could [go back to that]. I think if you’re creative enough, you can do anything. I had a whole way of doing it. That was one thing I wanted to do in AEW. I’d continue trying to call Edge ‘Edge’ and him being like, 'No, no, no! It’s Adam Copeland,'” Kanellis revealed. [H/T: Fightful]

Rumored plans for Cope (fka Edge) reportedly delayed in AEW

At Dynasty 2025, Cope was betrayed and brutalized by FTR. Since then, it has been rumored that The Rated-R Superstar will reunite with Christian Cage to take on the former Revival at All In 2025. However, a recent report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has hinted that the plans might have been delayed.

On The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp noted that Christian wanted to do The Patriarchy stint a bit longer before turning babyface and reuniting with Cope.

“People I talked to hinted to me there were some hiccups in relation to turning Christian babyface or getting him out of The Patriarchy. [It] seems like he wanted to do that for a little bit longer. They had planned for Cope and Christian against FTR at All In.”

Fans will have to wait and see when Cope returns to TV. Will he reunite with The Patriarch for one final run? Only time will tell.
