It's been a banner year for AEW in terms of signing free agents, and Tony Khan is seemingly continuing that trend amid reports that the company is cutting costs in other areas. It's been announced that former Lucha Underground ring announcer Melissa Santos has joined the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Melissa Santos was a popular name in Lucha Underground, but she's also put in work as a backstage interviewer with TNA. The 40-year-old is married to AEW star Brian Cage, who has expressed interest in his wife joining the promotion for some time now.
Santos took to Instagram today to announce that she had signed a deal with All Elite Wrestling. It's unclear what her role will be, but the former ring announcer noted that she is grateful and ready to get to work:
"Did you miss me? Thank you @aew for the opportunity and to those who helped make this happen. Grateful. Now let’s get to work," Santos wrote.
AEW star Brian Cage was excited to welcome his second child with Melissa Santos
Brian Cage and Melissa Santos worked together in various promotions before getting married in 2019. Late last year, they welcomed their second child into the world.
Cage named his newborn son Logan and took to social media to show him off. Despite the former FTW Champion's excitement, he couldn't help but plug an upcoming match along with the announcement:
"Pumping out babies like an 'f'n machine' & glad to be back into 'newborn' fatherhood. Actually, @ThisIsMelSantos was the real machine this time. Now it's time to go streets of cage/rage tomorrow in my old stomping grounds of Ontario, CA."
Brian Cage has been active in All Elite Wrestling this year as part of 'Cage of Agony,' a three-man faction that includes Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun. He's also completed on ROH TV and the independent scene recently.
