A major star who has become a free agent following their departure from WWE has expressed their interest in AEW. They were open to joining the company in the future.
Elayna Black (FKA Cora Jade) was one of the young stars who were surprisingly released from the Stamford-based promotion recently. She was with the company for four years on the NXT brand. She has a history with the Tony Khan-led company, as she briefly appeared on AEW Dark before WWE signed her.
During an interview with TMZ Sports, she was asked about her openness to joining AEW. The 24-year-old mentioned that she would want to permanently compete for a company, and she was open to a call from Tony Khan or from WWE if they'd like to bring her back in.
"Of course, I want to - wrestling is my life. For the past 16 years, it’s all I’ve ever known. Like, I’ve dedicated my life to making it as a wrestler. So, I want to wrestle, and I want to wrestle permanently somewhere. Whether that call comes from AEW, or if it comes from WWE again one day, I’m not sure. But I’m open to whatever."
Elayna Black continued by talking about All Elite Wrestling and how she enjoys both the product and the environment over there. She decided not to worry about it just yet and see what's in store for her future.
"I absolutely love AEW. I’ve been watching it since it first started. I just love wrestling. And I feel like, I’ve said before, they have so much creative freedom, which I love, um, because I love like the stories and stuff like that... So, I have no idea what the future holds, but I feel like I’m not really worried about it. I’m just taking it day by day." [H/T - RSN]
Elayna Black says she still has a lot of friends in AEW
During a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Elayna Black revealed that she still had some connections within the company, and she still kept up with their shows. She also mentioned that since it had only been 30 days since her release from WWE, she has not spoken to them just yet.
“Yes, I want to be full-time again. Yes, I would like to go to AEW. I would definitely be open to going to AEW. I loved my time there, I have a lot of friends there, I watch a lot of shows. I love as much creative freedom as they do. I’m so much about storylines and characters, and I feel like they are creatively free in that way, so it’s definitely something I’d be open to. My 30 days is just yesterday, but no, I haven’t talked to them yet.” [H/T - Ringside News]
For a lot of the stars released by WWE, the future is still bright for them, and all they need to do is wait for their 90 days of not competing to come to an end.
