Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has finally opened up about his recent Twitter fiasco with AEW CEO Tony Khan.

The Modern Day Maharaja returned on the Day 1 edition of Monday Night RAW in January 2024 and was later granted a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth 'Freakin' Rollins. Following the title bout's announcement, Tony Khan took a major jab at Mahal on Twitter/X, questioning why he was challenging for the gold despite not winning any matches in 2023.

Mahal responded to Khan in an interesting fashion but quickly deleted the tweet. Last week, the 37-year-old left WWE after weeks of absence from television.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Jinder Mahal shared his reaction to Tony Khan's tweet about him.

"I was at home. I think it was early in the day. I think I had just done cardio and Drew [McIntyre] had texted me, and I got like a bunch of texts in a row and I was like I got to see this and I opened up Twitter and that's when I saw. Thank you, Tony, you made that match with Seth more interesting. More people watched it. People actually thought I was gonna win it just to spite Tony. I was surprised everybody stuck up for me. That's never happened before." [41:15 - 41:51]

Jinder Mahal recalls losing the WWE Title

The Modern Day Maharaja shocked the world after defeating Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at Backlash 2017. Jinder Mahal ruled the blue brand for several months before losing the title to AJ Styles on the November 7, 2017, episode of SmackDown Live.

During his recent chat with Chris Van Vliet, Jinder Mahal discussed his title run and revealed his conversation with Vince McMahon before losing the WWE Championship.

"No, no idea, I have no idea. Just week to week, pay-per-view to pay-per-view. No, I had no idea. And then even when I lost the title to AJ, Vince brought us to the office and told me that day because it was on a SmackDown we were in Manchester the match got made while we were already on the Europe tour. The first week of the Europe tour the match got announced while I'm already there. And Vince called us into the office. Hey, we're doing the title switch today. Jinder, you're now going to chase, that easy. Thank you, sir. Thank you. Let's go do it." [H/T - CVV]

Jinder Mahal is set to be a free agent in less than three months. It will be interesting to see if he rebuilds his credibility on the independent wrestling scene before possibly returning to the Stamford-based promotion in the future.
