A major AEW star has brought up the idea of a match with Mercedes Moné (formerly Sasha Banks) with an interesting stipulation. This would be their first-time bout being a submission match.
Deonna Purrazzo has made a name for herself as one of the best technical women's wrestlers. In her time with TNA, WWE, and other companies, she has been able to win several of her matches via submission.
During her recent appearance on the Lightweights podcast, The Virtuosa spoke about wanting to face off with Mercedes Moné in a submission match. She brought up how they each had a go-to submission hold in their repertoire, hers being the Fujiwara Armbar and the CEO with the Statement Maker. She believed they would do well in a match that could only end via submission:
“A submission match [against] Mercedes Moné. I just think we’ve both, like, established careers on our submissions. Me with the Fujiwara, primarily in WWE with her with the Bank Statement. I just think that the wrestler she is, and she is very much a technician in her own right, and so am I, we can make magic, particularly with a submission match.” [H/T PWMania]
Mercedes Moné captured another belt outside AEW
The CEO can be considered a belt collector as of now, as she has not gone without holding at least three belts in months. She shockingly lost one of these in May, with AZM becoming the new NJPW Strong Women's Champion, but she replaced this belt with the symbolic title given to the winner of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Moné added to her collection earlier today by suddenly making an appearance in Vienna, Austria, and winning the European Wrestling Association (EWA) Women's Championship. She did this during EWA's Prater Catchen event and defeated both Lexa Valo and Mila Smidt in a three-way contest.
Mercedes Moné continues to make history by adding to her list of accolades. She could cap this off by winning the ultimate prize and taking Toni Storm's AEW Women's World title at All In: Texas. It remains to be seen whether she'll remain undefeated after that night.
