A former champion has teased returning at AEW after being sidelined for some time now due to injury. The star being discussed is El Hijo del Vikingo.
The 27-year-old star has been a mainstay of the AAA promotion for years. He held the AAA Mega Championship for 833 days. He was the longest reiging champion in the history of the promotion, surpassing Kenny Omega's reign. He vacated the title after sustaining a knee injury in February this year. He was injured while wrestling in a six-man tag team action at Arena Lopez Matos.
Apart from AAA, El Hijo del Vikingo also made a huge impact in AEW as well. He made his debut against Kenny Omega on an episode of Dynamite in March 2023. Despite not being signed to the Jacksonville-based promotion, he has made multiple appearances in the promotion as a part of the AAA-AEW partnership. He wrestled his last match in the company in January 2024.
The injured star recently posted a picture on Instagram of him standing in front of the All Elite Wrestling stage, teasing his AEW return. Also, after a fan in the comments asked about coming back, he replied "It's almost time."
Konnan reveals El Hijo del Vikingo isn't signed to AEW
The 27-year-old star has already wrestled a huge number of matches in Tony Khan-led promotions and became a fan favorite after a few of his performances connected with the fans.
While speaking on Keeping It 100 OFFICIAL, AAA Producer Konnan confirmed that Tony Khan hasn't signed Vikingo yet.
“He’s not signed by Tony Khan. He’s signed to us (AAA) and he’s one of the very few talents, very good talents that we have that Tony hasn’t signed. What’s really fu**ed us up, when this finally happens, we will have a more normal playing field is so we were supposed to get a TV deal like two years ago and then the pandemic, a lot of changes were done in the industry, so we’re on the road to that now,” Konnan said.
It remains to be seen how long before the former AAA Mega Champion returns to the squared circle.
