AEW President Tony Khan has recently announced the date for the return of a former WWE champion in the Jacksonville-based promotion for a multi-man match.

The former WWE champion would be none other than Rob Van Dam. RVD was last seen on AEW TV on an episode of Dynamite in February 2024. Mr. Monday Night teamed up with Hook and "Hangman" Adam Page to take on the team of Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Brian Cage in a trios match.

In the end, RVD's team suffered a defeat. Since then, fans have been anticipating Mr. PPV's return to AEW. Nonetheless, Tony Khan has made a special announcement regarding Rob Van Dam's return to the Jacksonville-based promotion on Rampage this week.

Khan took to X/Twitter to announce that AEW Rampage would take place on Saturday, April 20, rather than Friday this week. Tony Khan also announced that RVD will take on Lee Johnson, Isiah Kassidy, and Komander in a high-flying Elimination Four-Way Match on Rampage in Peoria, Illinois, this Saturday, following the episode of Collision.

Former WWE Superstar Rob Van Dam on his AEW future

Former WWE Superstar Rob Van Dam has been making sporadic appearances on AEW TV ever since his debut last year. After wrestling multiple matches on television, RVD also addressed whether he would sign a full-time deal with the Tony Khan-led promotion while speaking on his 1 Of A Kind podcast.

"Right now, I don't know AEW, if anything...I don't know what to expect. RVD-ology tells me not to have expectations. I'm 2-3 on my AEW so far. If he wants to just bring me in when he's got wrestlers that are injured and needs someone to step in, it's still not a bad position to be in. I'm a gun for hire, and I like my position in that," Rob Van Dam said.

Only time will tell if Rob Van Dam will be seen more often on AEW TV and whether he is considering signing a full-time deal with the Jacksonville-based promotion.
