AEW President Tony Khan has already hired numerous names halfway into 2023. But his recent acquisition of Will Washington has puzzled WWE veteran Jim Cornette.

Khan recently took to social media to announce Washington's signing as AEW's Wrestling Administration Coordinator. According to the post, the former wrestling podcast host will be involved in live events, social media, creative, and PR.

During the latest episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, the veteran recalled his initial reaction to the news and how he erroneously thought that Washington was the American actor and writer Wil Wheaton.

"I know what everybody else is saying out there, and it’s the same thing I said, ‘Who the f**k is Will Washington?’ I had never heard this name before. At first, I thought it was the guy that used to be on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Wil Wheaton. Cause who is this guy? I have never heard this f**king guy’s name before." (02:36:04 onward)

Despite Cornette's comments, many fans took to social media after Washington's signing to praise the move.

Jim Cornette believes Will Washington's signing is another fumble by the AEW President

Many veterans have pointed out the booking and management mistakes that Khan has made over the years, while others, like Road Dogg, have even offered their support directly. These names seem to have all seemingly been passed in favor of Will Washington, which did not go down well with Cornette.

Later during the same episode, Cornette criticized Tony Khan for hiring someone who seemingly has no experience in his role.

"Has he ever been employed in the professional wrestling industry before, in any of the capacities that was [sic] just described that he’ll be working in AEW? (…) I’m not s**ting in his post toasties, but just on the surface, it’s another example of Tony needing help from people who know what the f**k they’re doing, and instead, he hires people who have never legitimately worked in the wrestling business ever!" It remains to be seen how much Will Washington can contribute to AEW as part of his new position.
