AEW is gearing up for its upcoming major stadium show, All In: Texas. The event will likely feature many of the promotion's top names, including The Hurt Syndicate, which consists of MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, and now MJF. Although The All Mighty, one half of the reigning World Tag Team Champions, could be set to defend his title on July 12, he might also be booked for a huge singles match at the event. His opponent could very well be his old rival, former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle.
The King of Bros has been honing his craft inside the squared circle for nearly a decade now and is best known for his time in WWE, where he signed in 2018 and began competing in NXT. He moved to the main roster in 2020, debuting on SmackDown and was later drafted to RAW, where he shared the ring with notable names like Seth Rollins, Sheamus, AJ Styles, and Bobby Lashley, to name a few. However, Riddle's popularity truly peaked with the formation of RK-Bro alongside Randy Orton.
Despite his success in WWE, the sports entertainment juggernaut released him in 2023. Since then, Riddle has been wrestling on the indies across promotions such as MLW, HOG, GCW, and more. He has even made appearances in CMLL and NJPW, but not in AEW. Notably, the former mixed martial artist recently revealed that he is interested in working for the Tony Khan-led promotion.
With one of the company's biggest shows looming on the horizon - AEW All In: Texas - the All Elite Creative Head could potentially sign the former US Champion and book him in a feud with one of his rivals from WWE, Bobby Lashley.
The Hurt Syndicate member currently holds the AEW World Tag Team Championships alongside Shelton Benjamin, and thus may defend the belts at the upcoming stadium show. However, TK could instead elect to book The Destroyer in a singles match against Riddle, drawing from their history in WWE. The two men have faced each other before, both in one-on-one and tag team action, and could reignite their rivalry where they had left it in All Elite Wrestling.
Nevertheless, considering last year's report claiming that Khan had not shown any interest in signing The Original Bro, such an angle may not come to fruition.
Another former WWE Superstar wants to work in AEW
Matt Riddle isn't the only former WWE name who recently showed interest in joining AEW. While speaking to TMZ Sports during an interview, Elayna Black (fka Cora Jade) expressed her desire to perform for the Jacksonville-based promotion, stating:
"Of course, I want to - wrestling is my life. For the past 16 years, it’s all I’ve ever known. Like, I’ve dedicated my life to making it as a wrestler. So, I want to wrestle, and I want to wrestle permanently somewhere. Whether that call comes from AEW, or if it comes from WWE again one day, I’m not sure. But I’m open to whatever."
Black was released by WWE last month, bringing her four-year stint in the company to an end.
