Miley Cyrus sets the record straight on the true meaning of her chart-topping hit 'Flowers'

Singer Miley Cyrus shared the true meaning behind her hit track Flowers in an interview with British Vogue on May 18, 2023. The singer released her single on January 13, 2023, and it was met with a lot of positive reactions from fans. Flowers even managed to spend eight weeks at the top of the US Billboard charts and ten consecutive weeks at the No. 1 rank in the UK.

Needless to say, as soon as fans heard the song, they were curious about its lyrics and the true meaning behind them. During her interview, the Climb singer said that instead of sharing an explicit diary of her experience, she released the track that she could "do with hearing."

The singer, according to British Vogue, released the song without nearly no press and it still received a lot of love. In the interview, she said that she never needed to be a "master at the craft of tricking an audience," and added that the song would set fire "all by itself."

In the interview, Cyrus shared the meaning behind Flowers and how it was different from her other tracks. She said that the chorus of the song initially was supposed to say:

“I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, but I can’t love me better than you can."

She said that the initial chorus sounded more like it was from the 1950s and even dubbed it the "saddest song." She added that it felt like:

"Sure, I can be my own lover, but you’re so much better.”

The artist then shared her perspective about it song noting that it was a little like "fake it till you make it," which she stated that she was a big fan of.

During the interview with British Vogue, the Seven Things singer also mentioned her reaction to the release of Flowers. She said that on the night of the release, she went out dancing with her crew at the Sunset Club at The West Hollywood Edition where she didn't drink but was celebrating the song.

Miley noted that at around 1 am, Lil Nas X walked into the club and asked her "the most interesting question." He inquired whether she was anxious about how successful Flowers was.

She added that she wasn't anxious as the song might have been on the No. 1 position then but No. 2 was "on its way." Cyrus added that everything was seasonal.

As mentioned earlier, the artist had nearly no press for her track and her track has managed to garner over 435 million views on YouTube. The video was directed by Jacob Bixenman and was a part of Cyrus' latest album Endless Summer Vacation, which was released on March 10, 2023.
