Reinhard from Re: Zero is one of the fan-favorite characters known for his overpowered nature and abilities, which he has showcased numerous times throughout the series. Being a beast of a human, when it comes to magic abilities and swordplay, how powerful could this character be when compared to other characters of the series?

According to the author, Reinhard is the strongest character of Re: Zero, and no other character stronger than him will be introduced in the future. His ability to use any Divine Protection, masterful swordplay that can be matched by only a few other swordmen and many other abilities make him the beast the author titled equal to Godzilla.

Explaining the abilities of Reinhard from Re: Zero

Reinhard van Astrea is one of the supporting characters of Re: Zero who's the current Sword Saint and a part of the Royal Guard. Despite Reinhard a supporting character, his appearances are most awaited by the fandom due to his abilities that cannot be bested by anyone.

The character was born with a talent for swords and became a Sword Saint at the age of five. Despite being a character no one could meet eyes with, he has no ego and tends to remain kind to anyone, just like his first meeting with the main protagonist Natsuki Subaru.

The character has the unnatural ability to sense someone in danger, which became obvious when he came to Ave Subaru whom Elsa was hunting down. This was also the first time Reinhard showcased his abilities. The first ability of the character is his ability to request any form of Divine Protection from Od Lagna, given his situation.

Although he cannot request Divine Protection without any cause, his ability to request such an overpowered ability is a feat in itself. He was able to block Elsa's attacks from all directions using Divine Protection. Moreover, there's his swordplay, which he utilizes his 'Dragon Sword Reid,' passed down to him from the previous Sword Saint.

Another ability of Reinhard that makes him an 'overpowered' character is his ability to combine his swordplay with his magic, examples being the 'Mana-sucking sword slash,' which he used against Elsa, and 'the slash of the dragon sword Reid,' which he used against Puck's Beast of the End form.

These attacks are able to one-shot anyone, just like how Puck was beaten in a single blow. However, as Elsa evaded Reinhard's attack, she survived but died later in the second season after a pile of debris fell on her.

Other than these abilities, Reinhard possesses the usual abilities every overpowered character has, like immense speed, superhuman reflexes, masterful hand-to-hand reflexes and others. All of them would be the reason why Nagatsuki Teppei, the author of the series, branded the male character as the undisputed strongest one of Re: Zero.

Final Thoughts

Although the anime has yet to shed light on Reinhard's origins and how he became what he's to this day, he has showcased his potential as someone who cannot be defeated even by the strongest Mabeasts and the most talented swordsmen of Re: Zero.
