After Wingman mangaka Masakazu Katsura redesigned Dragon Ball's first volume for the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project, fans looked forward to learning the next creator in line. That's when Shueisha reported that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda was next up to redesign a Dragon Ball manga cover as part of the project.
As fans must know by now, the Dragon Ball franchise is commemorating its 40th anniversary with the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project. This project has seen one new mangaka redesign a Dragon Ball volume cover every month, adding a unique twist. With 41 volumes done, Eiichiro Oda is set to be next in line.
One Piece mangaka set to feature next in Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project
As revealed by the X account @WSJ_manga, the next manga creator set to feature in DRAGON BALL Super Gallery is the renowned One Piece mangaka, Eiichiro Oda. The artwork for the same is set to be released in the next Saikyo Jump magazine issue #2, which will be revealed in December 2025.
The project first began with Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto redesigning the manga's 11th volume in August 2021. Since then, the project has released 41 redesigned manga volumes, each one drawn by a different manga creator.
Some of the mangaka who took part in the project include Tite Kubo (Bleach), Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man), Koyoharu Gotouge (Demon Slayer), Tatsuya End (Spy X Family), Yuki Tabata (Black Clover), Sui Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul), Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Yusuke Murata (One Punch Man).
With Wingman mangaka Masakazu Katsura having redesigned the most recent addition, fans now patiently wait for One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda's take on one of the 42 manga volumes from the series. While it is yet to be confirmed, the upcoming redesign could be the final addition to the DRAGON BALL Super Gallery project.
How fans reacted to the reported announcement
While most One Piece fans were happy to hear that they would get to see Eiichiro Oda's redesign of a Dragon Ball manga volume, not every anime fan shared the same sentiment.
"He's gonna draw something extremely good," one fan said.
"Oda's artistic fall off needs to be studied cant lie," another fan said.
"Here we go another luffy incoming. Oda can't draw...," other fan said.
While they loved One Piece and Eiichiro Oda, fans were certain that the manga creator was not cut out for drawing characters that weren't part of his series. This is because whenever Oda had drawn Son Goku in the past, it always looked like Luffy who had worn a Goku wig. Thus, some fans weren't too excited about the One Piece creator's addition to the project.
