The episode began with Nio having a short interaction with the members of the Miburo. Kendo splashed water on Nio in an attempt to get rid of his drowsiness. Shortly after, he met Taro, a 13 year old boy. Nio was excited to get himself acquainted with someone his age. However, Hijikata asked him to maintain some distance.
Soon after, Serizawa came to the quarters in an inebriated state. He also confessed to killing Toroichi, a member of the Miburo. He asked Taro to get rid of the body. Taro obliged, went to the site, and started stabbing the corpse even more to ensure that it wouldn't stay afloat when disposed of the waterbody.
Nio realized that Serizawa hid his intentions and confronted him the next day. Serizawa revealed the truth, stating that he killed the traitor. Hijikata also found a stash of letters offering money for information and the whereabouts of the Miburo members. Serizawa was impressed with Nio's observational skills. In fact, he even asked Hijikata to tell him more about Nio. The young boy is certainly an enigma. Despite having little to no physical strength, he is bold and doesn't mince his words.
