After dislocating his shoulder in Game 2, many wondered if Shohei Ohtani would be able to finish the World Series with the Dodgers. However, whatever worries were at play were laid to rest in Game 3, when Ohtani took to the field at Yankee Stadium in Game 3.

The injury was sustained in the seventh inning of Game 2, when Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal a base. Although he left the game, the dislocation was not deemed to be serious, and the Japanese superstar was given the green light for Game 3.

Among those who were impressed with Ohtani's grit and tenacity was Gary Sheffield. Sheffield - a nine-time All-Star - won the 1997 World Series with the Florida Marlins, and called Ohtani an "alien" and "the ultimate team player" due to his ostensibly super-human ability to keep chugging forward.

An MLB player from 1988 until 2009, Sheffield knows more than most about what it takes to perform in late October. Sheffield finished his career with a .292 batting average to compliment his 509 career home runs and 1,676 RBIs.

After an NLDS that left much to be desired off of his bat, Ohtani came alive in the NLCS against the New York Mets. In six games against New York, Ohtani hit .364 with a pair of home runs and six RBIs to help his team to the World Series.

Protecting his left arm, Ohtani walked and scored a run in the Game 3 victory. With The Los Angeles Dodgers are now just a single win away from a World Series win, Ohtani's example is not lost on manager Dave Roberts, who told MLB.com:

“I thought he did a really nice job of competing, I don't think that it got any worse. Obviously, just him in the batter's box starting the game off, getting on base by way of walk. Yeah, I just really appreciate him posting tonight.”

Tuesday will play host to the biggest game of Shohei Ohtani's life. Understandably, it would likely take far more than a shoulder ailment to sideline the presumptive NL MVP.
