The second half of the MLB season has only just begun, yet teams have already been forced to provide injury updates on some of their biggest stars. With the postseason approaching, some clubs have given some concerning injury updates that could impact their rank in standings heading toward the end of the year.

MLB injury updates for July 24

Max Scherzer

It's been a difficult season for future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. The 39-year-old has struggled to remain on the field for the Texas Rangers after opening the 2024 campaign on the IL. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy provided an optimistic injury update on his star pitcher, saying that he is expected to make his next scheduled start against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday despite dealing with arm fatigue.

JP Crawford

The Seattle Mariners have been struck by the injury bug lately. While the team waits to see what will happen with ailing star Julio Rodriguez, the team has already announced that veteran JP Crawford is expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a hairline fracture in his pinky finger. It's disappointing news for the team has it's looking to maintain a postseason position in the second half of the year.

Rafael Devers

Boston Red Sox superstar Rafael Devers was the team's designated hitter on Wednesday following a near-miss incident on Tuesday. The All-Star slugger appeared to roll his shoulder on a diving play at third base, and although he was able to avoid a serious injury, the team is going to proceed with caution.

Christian Yelich

The Milwaukee Brewers have a concerning injury update about star Christian Yelich, who has been placed on the 10-day IL with lower back inflammation. According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, Yelich will see a spine specialist on Thursday to determine whether or not he will need to undergo potentially season-ending back surgery.
