MLB insider on Los Angeles Angels: "Zack Britton is the guy right now that they have their eyes on"

The Los Angeles Angels are doing everything in their power to reverse their misfortune. The club is interested in bringing in relief pitcher Zack Britton to help shore up the defense.

Britton is one of the few highly rated left-handers still available on the market. He has struggled with injuries in the past, but could be a perfect fit for the Angels. In his prime, he was regarded as one of the game's premier relievers and made a name for himself with the Baltimore Orioles, where he spent eight seasons.

During that time, he was selected to two All-Star Games and was voted American League Reliever of the Year in 2016. He also led the league in saves in 2016 with 47.

The news was reported on MLB Network by baseball insider and former executive Steve Phillps. The former New York Mets general manager also confirmed that the Metropolitans are also interested in Britton.

Zack Britton recently went through Tommy John surgery, which limited him to just three games for the New York Yankees in 2022. Prior to that, he was extremely efficient and reliable. He is known for a slider-sinker combo that keeps hitters off balance.

Since becoming a full-time reliever in 2014, he has had an ERA below 2.00 in five of the last nine seasons.

The Angels have been active during the offseason. Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Anderson was brought in on a three-year, 39 million deal. Experienced reliever Carlos Estevez was signed to a two-year, $13 million contract. If Britton were to sign, that would conclude a solid offseason for the pitching staff.

With Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon in the lineup, the offense is in good hands. The club is now looking to add some pitching to compliment their talented hitters.

The Los Angeles Angels are desperate to make the postseason after failing in their last eight attempts. The talent is there for all to see and there will be heavy pressure on manager Phil Nevin to start strong in 2023.
