Apple TV+ joined the sports broadcasting community by airing MLB games on its service for free, but that is changing in 2023. The streaming service will still be airing select games throughout the season, but they will reportedly no longer be free. This is a tough blow for fans who enjoyed watching the games via a streaming service without breaking the bank.

Making the game more accessible and easier to watch is every baseball fan's dream. MLB is ultimately a business friven by financial motives, as is Apple. Its decision to charge for games is not surprising, but that does not make it any less disappointing.

Barstool Baseball on Twitter shared the report of the revised plan for 2023's Apple TV+ broadcasts.

Needless to say, MLB fans are not happy about the direction this is going. It feels as though the game is becoming more and more difficult to watch, with broadcast rights so split up. The looming news regarding the future of Bally Sports Networks will only make the situation more confusing.

Whether you are a fan of the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies or Houston Astros, we all just want to watch baseball. Having barriers put up making that more difficult, whether they be cost related or blackout related, is frustrating. The NFL and NBA have established relatively straight-forward systems to watch their games. Once again, MLB seems to be lagging behind.

MLB has put a focus on growing the game, which they recently did well with in the World Baseball Classic. If there was more cohesion in which service broadcasts which games, this would not have caused such a backlash. It is simply far too spread out for many fans to be able to watch all the games they want to watch.

As baseball expands into the streaming world, there will likely be more hiccups like this.

MLB will have one of its most unique seasons ever in 2023

Ignoring the immense level of talent spread across the American and National Leagues, the new rules will change the game. Having both a pitch clock and a ban on the defensive shift will fundamentally alter the way the game is played. This makes it an exciting time to be a baseball fan, even if you're team isn't competitive.

Just one of these changes would make a huge difference, both make it historic. This is the perfect time to try to draw in new viewers rather than pushing existing fans away.
